Cubefallout, from the land of the Millitime

Aug 10, 2009 19:48

There's only so long that one can go worrying about one's best friend - one's mad-scientist-who-often-forgets-to-eat-and-sleep best friend - before doing something approximating detective work. Sure, it's just asking for the Bar's input, but it's better than nothing ( Read more... )

Billy opens the door without ceremony.

"Oh, hey, Moist. Er. Come in."

There's papers scattered everywhere, and possibly some indiscriminate dirty laundry, but hey. It's a bachelor pad. The fact that there's room to sit down on a chair is pretty good. What more can a visitor ask for?

"Do I want to know what's got you holed up this time?"
Moist hands over one of the sandwiches on principle. Even if Doc has been eating, he could probably stand to do it again.

"Oh, thanks," he mutters, trying to assemble some of the papers into coherent piles.

"I don't know..." he waves a hand. "I've just been trying to work on this plan for the um. You know. Teleportation thing."

Moist... helps organise the papers, actually. The way things are working out, he kinda wants to see how long it'll be before Doc notices.
(Hey, just because he's content with his place in the overall scheme of things doesn't mean he completely lacks devious moments.)
"Cool. Anything interesting so far?"

Being extremely scatter-brained, he doesn't notice. For now.

"Yeah, uh, basically, I've been trying to figure out how Milliways can magically transport people back and forth between universes. If I can get those properties down, I might be able to use them for my machine. Maybe."

Well, that's all right. There's time. (Which is not to say Moist isn't a little amused.)
"Probably couldn't hurt, if you can get it to work. It's also probably going to be a pain in the ass to figure out."
Translating it to mad science, though? Moist doesn't see that presenting a problem. But then, he has an easier time thinking of the Bar as a mad science project, so.

"Yeah, that's about right."

He wipes his forehead with the back of his hand, catching sight of the sandwich still clutched there. He looks surprised, then takes a bite.

"Thanks for the food, bee-tee-double-yoo. Haven't gotten the chance to eat for a while."

"No problem." He'd suspected as much, really - with Doc, it's always better to err on the side of caution and bring some food along. If nothing else, it'll be there later.
(In cases like that, it's usually non-perishable food.)
"Well. If there's anything I can help with on that, keep me posted."

"Well. Yeah, actually. There will be some stuff to help with pretty soon," he says, slowly, coming to the realization that the sandwich he's holding doesn't feel like it's just been dunked in a swimming pool.

"Cool. Might take me a little bit to catch on, but I like to think I'm a pretty fast learner."
He had to be, to figure out how to negotiate that excess-moisture business. Not to mention, it can be helpful in dealing with the rest of the Union.

"I think so."

Billy raises the sandwich to eye-level. "I take it you decided to make the non-moist thing permanent?"

"What gave it away?" he says, as innocently as he can manage.
The big-ass grin kind of ruins the effect, but oh well.

"The lack of moisture," he says, quite astutely.

"Yeah, I guess it would, at that. Don't know what might come of the deal next year, but... this seemed like the thing to do, for now."
And so far, he's enjoying the hell out of it.

"Yeah?"

Billy considers this.

"So you might be able to help me out in the lab, when we get back there?"

"Don't see why not. Definitely poses a lot less of a hazard, now."
Because, well. It usually helps, when you don't have to worry about frying the circuitry.
