Orwell, I wish you could see this

I don't usually post much about politics in my country. The first reason is that I'm deeply ashamed of my country and its government, the second is that I don't think any foreigner person would honestly believe me, let alone understand just how bad things are. But I think these things deserve repeating, and spreading ( Read more... )

That's... amazing and appalling all at once. Amazing 'cause you guys are kicking ass, and appalling because... because. I hope you don't mind if I post a link to this entry in my own lj? I don't think our flists cross-over any, so it wouldn't really be double-posting for anyone.

Of course, feel free to link it as much as you want. The more people know about this, the better. And thanks, as much as it pains me to admit it there's no light at the end of the tunnel, but people are trying to do something about this nonetheless.

Ah, man. And I thought my country was fucked. (American)

Spreading the word. Yes. Good idea. Definitely.

Good luck to you and yours, and pooh on your corrupted government.

M'not much of a news person. What I know comes from posts like this (and those web stories on the front page of Yahoo.)

Things like this make me want to pay more attention.

(Yes, good luck! Very best of luck!)

Non me ne stupisco affatto.

I had no idea what the situation in Italy looks like. How can they ban Internet?

But I'm from Poland, and we're probably the only democratic country in the world where two most important functions (President and Prime Minister) are taken by identical twin brothers. And never mind that right before the elections President swore that his brother wouldn't be a part of government. Apparently selective memory is needed to become a good politician.

They simply do it the Italian way - they don't outright forbid or ban anything, they use bureaucracy to make it so damn difficult you just give up.

That way they don't make an unpopular ban and by citing excuses - I'm betting that the 'protecting children from online predators and pedophiles' card will come up at some point - they'll pass as some damn heroes. That way they make themselves look good, and if you don't agree with it you are the asshole that doesn't care about children. That's, in short, how it works - and I can offer all the examples you want, our history is full of them.

i...need my boomstick.

that...

...holy fucking shit. I thought the people who voted for Bush were bad... this sounds like some Animal Farm-1984-Big Brother is watching you insanity. Surely the government can't overpower the whole country.

...this needs to continue to move. Statistics bring power, bring perspective, and idiotic politicians are a disease; they feed off of one another, and one's stupidity becomes another. First Italy, and then who?

Overpower the country. The thing is, they don't need to ( ... )
