positive and negative liberty are not mutually exclusive. in a sense, we must have a certain degree of negative liberty in order to conceive of positive liberty. the negative liberty that frees our actions and transcends our thoughts to free us from constraining principles of conformity allows us to experiment, frees us from the harpies, allows us to, not necessarily invent, but to understand sin for ourselves - good and bad of natural sentiment and utility. we will then impose our duties, on ourselves, as sovereigns, acting only through our autonomous wills in accordance with what universal good we can come to understand, and come to understand only by living as we may. truly, we will have no strict formula; God and nature, one, jostling us about in our biospheres.

i'm working on it.
