October 20, 2008 aka Best Day Ever lol

Okay, so what happened yesterday? I went for the first time to Foxboro Mass. for a Patriots game. And what a super game it was. First in case you dont know the New England Patriots are an (American) football team, that have won the Superbowl 3 times, all of which in the last decade. However, in the first game this season the Patriots most important player, quarterback Tom Brady was injured and out for the rest of the season. Leading to some disappointing games, loses, and so-so at best QB play from replacement Matt Cassel. And of course this would be the season that I finally get tickets to go to a game.

Anyways, I was asked if I still wanted to go now that Brady was out, and answered that with off course i still want to go, and eventually the day of the game arrived. The Pats were playing the Broncos, and I was not all that confident that we could win.  Our defense had gotten shreded the week before and Cassel had looked bad, plus the Broncos had a good offense and always caused us problems.

My Mom, who I went with, arrived at my dorm at 3:15pm-ish and we set off to Providence from where we were taking the train to the stadium. The train ride seemed to last forever (seriously it was the slowest freakin train ive been on in my life, like we were going 15mph) but we got there in time to be searched, patted down and let in.  I even had time to get a Vrabel jersey before kickoff.

We got to our seats, up in section 340, in time for all the pregame festivities.  Even though our seats were really high up, I thought they were terrific, and you had a great view of the whole field.

Then the game began and it was fantastic. First Denver possesion: fumble equaling a Gost field goal. Second Denver possesion:fumble equaling Gost field goal.  Now for a minute or two after the second field goal i got nervous, we kept getting the ball with decent field possesion and kept not be able to get in the endzone.  However the defence continued to hold, and our running game just shredded the Denver defense, allowing Sammy Morris to run it in. Cue the loudspeakers blaring Elevation by U2, mass cheering/screaming, and me jumping up and down like crazy. 13-0! I was stoked. And it just kept getting better. Denver kept turning the ball over, getting penalties, and not stopping our offense while our D looked like the D of old. Then right before the half we scored again, and this time it was a touchdown PASS. Again this was followed by U2, screaming, and me jumping up and down. Oh, and gunfire (and fireworks), cant believe I forgot the gunfire lol. So it was 20-0 at halftime, better than I would ever have predicted.

Okay, well i dont think I need to keep going on about like every play lol. The final score was 41-7, every single touchdown made it even better, and the cheering got even more crazy, at least by me lol. I love a blow out, close games just make you too nervous. Yes, the Patriots still were not perfect, yes Denver beat themselves almost as much as the Pats beat them, and even though the night was somewhat marred by Rodney Harrison's knee injury (Get Better Soon Rodney!),  the Newspaper said it best, "For one night at least, the post-Brady blues were shoved aside by a complete performance by the New England Patriots." And I was there, screaming to the heavens in celebration, and I cant wait to one day go back.
