I have to say, Shannon, that this piece is really incredible. It seems like a new direction for you - for so long your work has been heavily anthropomorphic, these new pieces seem to emote a novel way of thinking. Especially “Insanitree” - creative and expressive; I think you really captured something here!

Well, my last year at Tyler I had been doing work in a similar vein to these, and now and again I've revisited conceptualism over the years privately.. I enjoy doing work at both ends of the spectrum-- abstract and representational.. I still love creating anthropomorphic art very, very much, and am not planning on leaving it behind any time soon. :) When I'm dealing with a stormy mental landscape though, the sort of work I've shown in this post comes much more naturally to me, and serves as an outlet- a form of meditation- I guess. I've just been more reluctant to show the "weirder" stuff, because of nervousness about what kind of reception it'll get. I suppose it's best to just put it the hell out there, and punt my insecurities to the wayside.

Thanks for the encouragement! These are important to me, and I'm glad you enjoyed them. ^^
