Ok, so the woo hoo! moment of the day.
At the end of a long and a little frustrating day, I'm staring at my smartboard watching a blueman group video trying to figure out how I could work it into a math lesson of some sort, and my principal walks in.
She tells me she needs to ask me a favour. Oh... ok.... So, she says, "I've got a presentation coming up, and I've been thinking, and the thing I want to do is to show some of my best teacher's strategies... So, if it's ok with you, I'd like to come in and take some photos and maybe some video of you running your problem solving stuff in math class..."
Crickets...
When I finally pulled myself together, I said, "Absolutely! I'd be honoured, come on in!" But the entire time I was screaming inside OHMYGOD OHMYGOD OHMYGOD OHMYGOD OHMYGOD... perhaps I haven't been sucking as much as it feels like I have...
Teaching a combined has felt like the greatest torture of my teaching career some days. I'm across divisions, so I don't really fit in anywhere, I've got difficult kids, and I've just been barely keeping my nose above sealevel...
So, moral of the story, kel: skill and efficacy are all a matter of perception.
