So I went to my 2 pre-op appts today. First one was at the specialist's office. Met with the nurse who went over my prescriptions with me and a paper to read about the procedure and then some papers to sign. Then she left and the doctor came in and listened to my heart and went over all the questions on my list with me. He was very nice. I really like that the doctor takes time to see me and that he only does this procedure under general instead of the optional local. Especially since my manager said I probably wouldn't see my doctor today. (Ha!) I went ahead and got my doctor's note for work and so far I will be out the 28th-5th. I have a follow-up appt on the 3rd at which point he will determine if I'll be ready to go back after the 5th or if I need more time off. Found out from my doctor that I should only be in the hospital about 4 hours.
Left there and drove over to the hospital for my second pre-op. Went to registration, gave name, was handed clipboard and buzzer. I wasn't finished filling out the paper and I got called back which was pretty cool. Went through the business registration part and back to the waiting room. Called back a few minutes later by the nurse. Weighed and vitals taken, along with several various questions asked, procedure went over, the nurse went over my prescriptions with me, and called the anesthesiologist (sp?) to come meet with me. Met with him, went over the process of everything and he filled out his part on the computer. Found out my surgery is at 8:30 in the morning. Then the part we all dread: they had to draw blood. I had already told the first nurse, Amanda, that I was a hard stick so she called another nurse, Linda, in to try. Linda spent several minutes trying to find a good vein in my arms including thumping the veins in my arm before moving to my right hand to try. She got the needle in and her and Amanda even got it into a valve but the valve closed causing a rather loud OW! from me. So they pulled out the needle and called a lady in the lab to come draw. She found a vein in my left arm on the inside right at the bend and was able to get the vial of blood drawn. I have to admit she did really good as I didn't even feel the pinch.
After that I sat sipping water for a few minutes before driving Jon and I back home and taking an hour nap before work.
I'll find out Wednesday of next week what time I have to be at the hospital. My mom will be taking me there as it is very early in the morning and jon doesn't get out of work until 1:45 am.
I'm excited and nervous at the same time.
