Last night, I graduated from high school.
Wow. That's the best word to describe everything. Wow.
The ceremony in itself was fantastic, the best graduation I've ever been to, out of all the two I've been to, but still. It was AWESOME.
On the way from the high school to the stadium, our buses were ESCORTED by the police. We got presidential treatment, and it was so freakin' (on a side note, I've noticed that I've been saying 'freakin'' a lot more often than usual, and I'm not sure that I like it) awesome.
Cars had to PULL OVER on the side of the road to let us through. Us, the graduating class of 2003, literally stopped traffic. Some of the motorists looked extremely pissed, while others pumped their fists in the air and yelled with us. It was such an incredible adrenaline rush.
Once at the stadium, I ran around getting pictures with all my friends before we had to go to our places. Thank God it didn't rain, we were so worried. It would've been chaos if it had.
Oh! I decorated my hat. Well, actually, Andrea did, but I assisted. She painted a shooting star with blue, green, and purple streaks. I outlined the star and streaks with glow in the dark puff paint, and then wrote my name in silver glitter puff paint. I think it turned out pretty neato, though her rendition of starry night on her hat was simply AMAZING.
So we took our places around 8:30pm; stood on the astro turf track field and watched the sun go down. In just ten hours, I'd be watching the sun come up.
It took quite awhile for it to become 9:00pm, so I sat and talked with my fairly new friend Andi while we waited to begin. She's such a cool girl, I wish I had gotten to know her better a lot earlier this year. I'm really going to need to make an effort to keep in touch. While we sat, Jonathan, the French foreign exchange student sat and talked with us a bit. I talked a tiny bit of French, but I think he gets annoyed when I do, like I'm trying too hard. Either that or I'd feel inferior if he replied and I understood, oh, three words. But we discussed Notre Dame de Paris and how we liked it and such, and that was fun. Or, it could be that he came to America to speak English, and not French. Duh, Kelsey.
We all scrambled to our lines when they announced the beginning of the commencement, and the band started playing Pomp and Circumstance. I was in the back, so I only made it to the end of the song, but it was really fun walking by my lowerclassmen band friends. Haha, Ashton said, "I always liked you best, Kelsey!" And I know it's not true, but it still made me smile.
When all four hundred and sixy something of us filed in, we finally sat down, and Kosta began his speech. It was a Kosta-like speech, and I enjoyed it, but I'm pretty sure I don't remember anything he said. I remember laughing at some point, though. Next it was Monique, and hers was very good. I really liked how she incorporated rhyming every now and then; it seemed nice and flowy. Like a poem, almost.
After Kosta and Monique, I think it was Doc Nelson, who's retiring this year. The first half was basically a retirement speech, but the second half was neat. Memories, and such.
I think all of the speeches at my graduation were all looking back. No advice, that I can remember. Margie Boule gave us advice at baccalaurete, but it was good advice that I mostly remember. I think I'm glad there was no "heading off into the world" advice during graduation. That would've been.. bleh. Typical.
Oh wait! When did Joel, James, and Erik sing? I can't seem to remember, but I know they did, and it was very pretty. Hehe, Joel was Tony-ish to me, hitting all those high notes. We're going to go play DDR Friday with Jaime and Curtis I think, yay!
Anyway, yes, they sang at some point, and then we got our dipolmas. Mickey, of course, did three backflips onstage, and I think that was the most outlandish of the graduation walks. At Alyssa's, some kid imitated a velacor raptor, and well... it wasn't classy. I pumped my fist in the air, and of course hit the edge of my hat, so I'm sure it was tilted while I receieved my diploma case (we aren't allowed to get our dipolmas until our gowns are turned it, pssh. Just an empty case). After my dipolma (case), I received a white rose with blue tips, and it was pretty, but definitely smelled like ink, and not a rose. Shame.
I ran off the stage and Jon Metz was on the side in the band area, and he yelled, "I love you Kelsey!" and I blew kisses at him. I love that kid, I'm going to miss him. Phi also yelled my name, and I think I blew kisses at him too. Gosh, it was so fun. Like walking down the red carpet, only looking like a mini supreme court judge with a silly hat.
I screamed for every single one of my friends, and I'm so surprised my throat isn't completely raw.
After all the diplomas were finished, either Miohelle sang or the slideshow was shown. Michelle sang beautifully, I didn't know she could sing that high and make it sound lovely.
The slide show, oh, the slide show! It was very, very cool. Ha, nearly half the pictures were mine, and that's probably why it was so awesome. But yes, I can't wait to buy the video just so I can watch the slide show again. When they put the West Side Story pictures up, I wanted to cry. They played music from it, and I wanted to go back and dance that dance again so badly. Then Joel and Katie as Tony and Maria, sigh. I heart that musical.
The slide show was over, and I think that's when Officier Reynolds sang. Man, I had NO idea he could sing that well! He sang Star Spangled Banner, and oh my goodness, it was so moving. When he got to "the rockets red flare" two red fireworks shot into the air near the back of the field. I think at the point I was so close to losing it. It was all just so... powerful. But I didn't, and I sang along with "Celebrate Good Times" during the entire fireworks show.
Gosh. Just an amazing ceremony. I simply loved it.
I'll write about the senior all night party later, since I still need to catch up on sleep.
