I went to the doctor (a doctor? Not THE doctor. A particular doctor) on Thursday to have my many moles checked. He scrutinised them all under light and with magnification, and declared them all to be skin tags and other equally harmless (if somewhat more technically labelled) blemishes. I realised about then that I had in fact thought I had cancer

I have no skin tags, but plenty of moles. I have always considered them beauty spots (a la' marilyn) and thought that they add character to what would otherise be boring skin. I do have an awareness of teh dangers associated though. I had one mole removed really poorly when I was in high school - obviously the Dr. didnt do so well with the scalpel in med school. He idnt seem confident, but at 16, you let these dr.s have their sharp nasty way. It was on teh bra line (one my back) during warm weather, and I couldnt wear a bra for weeks. That tranlates to very uncomfortable time during self conscious teenage years. This Dr. also suggested I have a pap smear irrespective of my telling him at 16 I was not, nor had ever been sexually active. He didnt believe me. *ramble over*

That sounds like an unusual Dr., though I myself have an unusual Dr. of the "so why are you HERE?" fame. I dont know I'd handle it as well as you if a Dr. started pinting out my 'faults' and wanting to remedy them. I can only imagine he is either aiming for mo' money or asthetic perfection - what do you think?

Yes, I described the mole on my lower lip to someone the other day with a reference to Cindy Crawfordesque beauty spots!

I think this Dr is aiming for both, money and aesthetic perfection. I can't discount the possibility that he thought he was doing my self esteem a favour by making me feel more confident about my appearance (in the long run, that is), even though you are probably with me in believing that a simplistic approach. I didn't feel like he was putting me down or dissing me. He was sharing his insight and opinions in a matey way and calling me Kel, even though he couldn't remember ever seeing me before...
