This paraphrase of da Vinci puts something I was trying to say to
bedfordbabe (the newest member of my Friends List, and a light in most my days of late) the night before last a little more clearly, I hope:
'(W)hat is unusual or unexpected can be right before our eyes without us seeing it. Not because it's invisible - but because if we don't understand what we see, we don't believe what we see. (...) The answer is there all along, but until I can imagine it, I can't know it.'
