'boundless and measureless'

My newest LJ Friend is sageccd. She lives on the other side of Australia, which is where I also lived for the first half of this life. She made contact with me because we both had Kate Llewellyn listed as an interest. It turns out there are any number of things that interest us both, points of intersection. She lives a graceful life, and writes that way too. Her posts stimulate much thought and emotion in me, and I would recommend you go see what they provoke in you.

The sage one is a fan of Leunig, and perhaps not coincidentally (I can't actually recall if I saw some Leunig ref on her LJ, or if I saw this book at the library first), I am reading a book of his at the moment. He first made a commercial name for himself as a cartoonist/illustrator, but his little vignettes come in words as well as pictures. I wonder if Gibran inspired this:

'He Was a Sailor

'He was a sailor, but the sea was not around him, it was inside him. A vast, deep ocean inside him, and on it his heart was adrift and alone. Powerful currents pulled him this way and that, pulled him off course. There were wild storms when, sick and afraid, he held on for dear life. Calm days when he drifted in peace. Still nights when he steered by the stars and heard angels singing across the water. How long he had sailed! How little he understood the sea! In the dark depths, unknown to him, mysterious black shapes glided and prowled. He was a sailor and the sea was inside him.'
