The amount of talent on this ship is absolutely amazing. Last night I was sitting in Tymitz Square, which is one of the public spaces on the ship where the Student Life desk and Purser’s desk are. Eric…Z? I’m blanking on his last name. He brought his guitar and was playing. So. Damn. Good. He was singing too, along with another kid who was singing harmony. He sang some of his own stuff, some requests. Now I have “Our House” stuck in my head, but it’s all good, because it was fun.
The night before that, these two guys were sitting at the piano, singing songs from musicals. Apparently I need to go see Spring Awakening which is fine by me, because I’ve heard good things about it, and what they sang was pretty damn awesome. One of the kids had the sheet music to probably 80 musicals downloaded onto his Mac (by the way, there are so many Macs here, it’s making me want one), so while he played, I “turned the pages.”
I joined a choir that is mostly girls, because, let’s face it, unless you drag a guy to stand in front of a piano, tell him no one is going to laugh when he sings, and when he’s good, you praise him so that he’ll sing. And then at a performance, he’ll sing so quietly you can’t hear him. Unless he’s Bill. ;) I love you, Bill.
Last night I went stargazing. There’s an Astronomy class on board, which I clearly didn’t get into, but they have open stargazing every B day (we have a rotating schedule of A and B days) at 2200. Everyone in Astronomy has to go, but the deck is open for everyone to go. Sometimes it’s hard to see stars at night because there’s so much light on the ship, but on stargazing nights, they turn down the lights on the seventh forward deck. I laid down for 20 minutes, listening to the Astronomy prof talk about Greek myths and point out constellations. Instead of Hercules, he said Heracles! The geek inside was happy.
So, I’m waiting for Global Studies to begin, and they’re playing Japanese pop music, because Japan’s our next port. It sounds like American pop. Le sigh. It’s actually good, so I’m not complaining.
So, I hate my Linguistics professor. How am I supposed to learn Linguistics from a woman with a Texas accent? Who insists that y’all is a proper pronoun? And mispronounces things allllllll the time. Like alumni. Instead of a long i, she gave it a short i. And she’s a really nervous talker and says ok in the middle of her sentences probably 50 times in a class period so I get really distracted. Jesus, I’m brutal. But I’m not the only one who doesn’t like her, so I can’t be wrong. :D
Ok, so last night we passed the International Date Line. And lost Friday, 7 September. It just disappeared into the great unknown. And my friend Emily lost her 21st birthday. She had an un-birthday.
Counting today, 4 days until we reach Japan!
