Interesting bits of randomness

Or maybe they aren't that interesting. Random, however, is guaranteed.

For those of you with your own LJ's, please be aware that "The 'Default' style is no longer default." Something about that sentence cracks me up.

Teaching a group of Junior Girl Scouts to do the bunny hop is far easier than teaching them to polka. Or, for that matter, to do anything that requires foot movement. I tried yesterday to teach a bunch of dances and they could manage really stupid ones like the macarena and the cha cha slide (which involves a lot of standing around waiting for the DJ to tell you to stomp or hop or clap), but they really sucked at the hora and the polka and even the pony (which I taught as a method of getting them to polka, because really, if you're doing the pony, you're essentially polka-ing alone). They also lacked the stamina to keep up on the Twist, and some of them couldn't even manage the basic twist swivel movement. At least I tried.

Owing to the dance instruction yesterday, my joints are screaming and I will now require ample rest until I leave for my conference on Friday. What was I thinking?

I backed up the music I've purchased from iTunes yesterday, and was forced to label one of the CDs "oldies." Here's what's on it:

Can't Take My Eyes Off You (LP Version)/Frankie Vallie & The Four Seasons
That's the Way I've Always Heard It Should Be/Carly Simon
Spider-Man Theme (Junkie XL Remix)/Michael Bublé
Rock Me Amadeus (Ihn Liebten Alle Frauen . . .)/Falco
Mais Que Nada/Brasil '66 & Sergio Mendes
The Girl from Ipanema (LP Version)/Joao Gilberto
Rock On/David Essex
Spanish Flea/Herb Alpert & The Tijuana Brass
A Taste of Honey/The Challengers
Dream a Little Dream of Me/The Mamas & The Papas
December 1963 (Oh What a Night)/Frankie Vallie & the Four Seasons
If You Could Read My Mind/Gordon Lightfoot
Don't Dream It's Over/Crowded House
One Night in Bangkok (Single Version)/Murray Head
If You Leave Me Now/Chicago

The Spiderman theme is actually a new recording, but it's from an old song, so it got thrown on this CD. But I found it odd to put Falco and Crowded House on an "Oldies" CD because they are from my early adulthood, and therefore can't possibly be old. Oh right, I'm nearly 42. How did that happen?

If you vacuum the surface of your furniture in order to remove pet hair, it will only encourage your pets to spend more time on the cleaned space.

And now, I'm off to research great female writers for my latest brainchild. Feel free to nominate folks for the list. And no, I'm not saying anything more about my project just yet. Let's just say it relates to last week's rant about the absence of sufficient books for Women's History Month.
