One Million Bones
Today, I'm actually posting an email I got from a friend of mine. I met Joan at the first event I ever attended for the Jane Austen Society of North America, and we hit it off. She's a lovely woman, and I'm pretty sure most of you would adore her, but this is not about her, really - it's just an introduction to who Joan is so that when you read her email, you'll know that this is a for-real thing and not some internet chain letter. M'kay?
Here's what I found in my inbox today:
Hello!
I am forwarding this email to all of you because I would like you to know what my amazing 29 year old niece, Naomi Natale, is doing with her life. She has started her second non-profit organization, One Million Bones. This organization is dedicated to raising funds & public awareness to help stop the evils of genocide in our world today. This is quite a big job for a young woman to take on. She is passionate about this issue & is attempting to raise $1,000,000 by the spring of 2013. Right now this non-profit is doing a kick-start campaign to raise $25,000 by August 27, 2011.
Naomi graduated from Stockton University in NJ. She graduated with an art & photography degree. She uses her art background in her present career as a non-profit organizer by creating art installations as a source of fundraising for her social conscious issues. Her first non-profit was the "Cradle Project" which raised $90,000 for orphans in Africa. These children were left orphans due to genocide & AIDS. Her new project One Millions is a very ambitious undertaking.
I am Not sending this message to you asking for your donations. I am sending this message to you to make you aware of what one young woman is doing with her life to help make our world a better & safer place for all people. Please read the email. If you go to the link you will see a short video with Naomi & her team of volunteers explaining this kick-start program. You can also google The Cradle Project to read about her previous undertaking. OneMillionbones.org will take you to the main website for this project. There are several ways to get involved in a non-monetary way as well as financially. Another way to help is to pass this message on to anyone that you think might be interested in reading about what young people in our country are doing to help the people in our world who are dealing with genocide everyday.
