The quote in today's icon comes from Twelfth Night.

Here's a quote from Sandy Asher as part of her introductory remarks at yesterday's Critiquefest in Lancaster, PA:

"Some of the nastiest people in the world write like angels."

And I highly commend Lisa Mantchev's post, "Stop Shaking Your Twinkie in my Face", which was a response to a somewhat negative blog post elsewhere bemoaning the proliferation of steampunk stories in the world. In fact, I like it so much, I'm quoting the full thing here. But if you enjoy it, by all means go comment over at Lisa's:

I really hate bringing this up here, because I know some of my friends really love them, but guys, snack cakes are _shit_. They are nutritionally devoid of anything good for you. They are full processed ingredients and cancer-causing artificial dyes and high fructose corn syrup.

I also take umbrage with the name... these gastronomical horrors are no more "cake" than my car is a Rolls.

I don't like them. I don't eat them. AND NEITHER SHOULD YOU.

Yeah, so now substitute "steampunk" (edit: or whatever genre or movement the popular kids are bashing today) for "snack cake" and maybe the rant makes more sense.

Newsflash, people: just because you don't like it, doesn't mean it's crap.
