As my lovely writing retreat draws to a close (*sob!*), I thought I'd take stock of my poetry-related progress this month. Because sometimes, I feel like Sisyphus, shoving the same damn boulder up a hill each day without making any real progress, even though, objectively, I know that can't be true.
Here's my tally for this month:
1.
Thirty-three poems, with analysis, posted here as part of my celebration of National Poetry Month (one for each day in April, with three "bonus" poems).
2. An original poem called "A Word from the Troll" featured by the lovely Eisha and Jules
over at 7-Imp, along with poems by Douglas Florian, Sara Lewis Holmes, Elaine Magliaro and Julie Paschkis
3. I put up a post featuring two deliciously nasty poetry collections over at
Guys Lit Wire.
4. I wrote my column for the May issue of Kid Magazine Writers.com. And hey, tomorrow's May already!
5. I wrote drafts of 12 Jane poems, 6 of which I've written since Monday. I'm currently at 99 Jane poems. And yes, I'm hoping to hit (or pass) 100 before we leave here tomorrow.
6. I wrote 17 haiku (of variable quality) and 6 other non-Jane poems.
7. I met Pat Lewis in real life, after having a lovely email friendship with him for a while now. Next time I'm hoping for a longer visit!
8. I got to hear my friend Dan Maguire read from his new collection, which I purchased. And I test-drove two new poems at the open reading following his presentation. And it went well.
9. Not poetry-related, really, but I had lunch with John and Sarah Green when they were in town for John's appearance at the Philadelphia Free Library Festival.
I'd love to have a 10th thing here, since 10 seems like a nice number to end with, but hey - I've got nothin'. Well, nothing more.
