6 Things on a Saturday

Apr 18, 2009 20:30

I will try to make them six good things, even.

1. Lauren Willig's books are making me happy-happy-happy. I've already posted reviews on the first four books, my favorite of which is decidedly The Seduction of the Crimson Rose. I now have in my possession the local library's copy of The Temptation of the Night Jasmine, which I put on hold on Thursday. Yes, someone returned it yesterday and lo, I was able to pick it up on my way home from Philadelphia today.

2. Why was I in Philadelphia? Well, the first time, I had lunch with John & Sarah Green at Reading Terminal Market (a farmer's market chock full of awesome), and the second time hubby, M and I went to the Free Library Festival at the Free Library of Philadelphia, where M scored a photo of Kristin Chenoweth (who is a tiny, tiny thing), and we caught part of Peter Yarrow's appearance (oddly disturbing), and then we joined the throng of Nerdfighters there to hear John read and take questions. It was a nice day for an event, that's for sure.

3. The UPS man brought me a copy of my friend Laura Salas's new book, Stampede, the other day, and it makes me very happy, too.

4. My friend Dan Maguire, who is a Most Excellent Poet (you can read his poem, "The Lateness of the Day" in my 2007 post, is reading at the Barnes & Noble store in Marlton, NJ on Monday evening at 7 p.m. If you are anywhere within driving distance of the place and can make it, you really ought to - Dan is an excellent poet and a spectacular reader. I believe there's an open reading after he's done, and will pack a poem accordingly.

5. In only six days, I will be in New Hampshire for the NE SCBWI Conference. I very much look forward to seeing old friends (and meeting new), and to the writing retreat in the mountains that follows it. Boy, do I need to get away for a while. Just me and Jane. And angeladegroot. And writerjenn.

6. cleolinda's recent Secret Life of Dolls posts are cracking me up. Big-time. And y'all, I can really use some laughs right about now.
