5 Things on a Friday

1. I was inexplicably saddened to hear that Andrew Wyeth died today at age 91. The inexplicable part was largely because, well, I thought he died about 5 years ago. I love his work, even if he was getting it on with the neighbor-lady secretive about his Helga paintings when he made them, to the point of not telling his wife until he had over 200 ( Read more... )

Poor S. I hope she feels better soon.

I watched Dr. Horrible AGAIN last night, for about the sixth time. And now you're telling me I have to buy the DVD? Yikes.

I hope you can spill the beans about the seekrit soon.

(I love gnomes.)

Per MR, the DVD has a musical commentary -- all sung, and all new. Seriously, how can you NOT buy it?

Hmm, I thought "filk" was a typo until you mentioned it again. I can't say I know the definition without looking it up. So, I guess I'll have to click on Websters Online. Hmm, is it in there? Just checked. Nope.

"Filk" comes from a typographical error. Not that that helps you all that much.

I saw Dr. Horrible for sale at Amazon today for, I believe, $10.49. I almost ordered it. Now I probably will. :)

I am very sad to have forgotten to enter the contest to win a complete Oxford English Dictionary. I love etymology. But I don't know "filk." I'm guessing it's Anglo-Saxon in origin.

I'd never have guessed about "hoosegow." Cool.

I hope S is well soon.

'Tisn't Anglo-Saxon. 'Tis from a typographical error. Heh.

*Considers ordering Dr. H from Amazon. Oh - if you use Amazon, consider clicking through to it from the CYBILS site -free to you, but gives them a wee kickback, which they use to buy actual prizes to send to prize winners. So.

Now I'm going to have to Google "filk," you know.

My parents' grocery store was named after a typo -- Sendix, I think it's called. I'll have to get the whole story again to retell it properly, though.

Thanks for the Cybils tip, I'll remember that. Cool!

It has its own Wikipedia entry, and an excellent website entitled "Filk 101", if you really feel the need to Google.

My mind is an interesting place to be most days. "Filk" comes from a typographical error. I suppose I'll have to reveal it tomorrow, since thus far, no nerds of the correct category have turned up to claim the bonus points.

Sounds like a good week, even with sick girl and Wyeth sadness. And next week is going to rock.

I like your assertiveness in that last statement, and I hope you are correct!
