M learned the first verse of "Jingle Bells" in Latin when he was in high school. It's something like:

Tineunt,
Tineunt,
Tintinabula.
Ecce [something] [something]
Cum laetitium.

That's hilarious! I can sing "O Come All Ye Faithful", which was translated from the Latin text, "Adeste Fideles". But not "Jingle Bells".

I just checked with M. The correct spelling is:

I just sang it aloud. It's fun to sing, particularly the "ecce whehimur curu" line. Although "tintinabula" sounds remarkably like the word for "ringing in the ears."

I love that song. Sang it in church beside my daughter last night, where it's mostly a song service, and really they should stick to that. They added a candle ceremony with colors, saying stuff like red is for... then green is for "growing things and children."

Green children, my editor self lifted her eyebrows. Okay, I get the point, but, let's watch our language.

I hope we get to meet in person, too! The candles at the churches I went to were always white when I was a kid, but eventually they shifted to purple. Sometimes the same shade, sometimes graduated shades. The Christ child's candle was always white, though.

I always liked the carol service, too. I still like the service (which I've attended with family), even though these days I'm Jewish. It's sweet.
