The Jane project

Today was a good day, writing-wise. After a very long time with no real progress on my Jane project, I have started to find my way back in. On Sunday, I finally got a workable start on a poem about a highwayman (no "riding, riding, riding") that I've been trying to write for months now, and have started and ditched quite a lot of times. In fact, I'd be willing to bet that between research and discarded writing, I'd spent at least 20 hours on the poem without anything much to show for it.

But on Sunday, I managed one stanza and a line.

And on Monday, during a walk, I figured out (at least in part) what the issue was, and in the afternoon, I wrote three more stanzas plus three lines.

And today, I fixed the really tortured line that ended that fourth stanza, ditched the three lines, and wrote two more full stanzas, finishing the poem. And then. And then, I pulled out my half-finished double sestina summarizing Pride & Prejudice, and managed to write a full stanza that not only works, it practically sings.

Looks like the break I've been taking from Jane has paid off.
