Things to look forward to in 2007
Now that it's officially a new calendar year (at least according to the common (Georgian?) calendar), I decided to list some of the things I'm looking forward to this year.
First, I'm really looking forward to owning a copy of The Crooked Kind of Perfect, lurban's forthcoming book. And trust me, so are you. I'd say I was looking forward to owning sarazarr's book, Story of a Girl, but hey, I already own it -- the stores put it out a few weeks early. Bonus! I'm looking forward to buying Tattoo by jenlyn_b, and I sure hope I get the tattoo decals that (might) go with it. And in the fall, I gotta get her other book, Platinum, the sequel to Golden. And to getting my hands on So Totally Emily Ebers by lisayee (even if I did almost type it as "Emily Ebers Explains Everything," a prior title idea for the same text). And to the prolific dlgarfinkle's books, Stuck in the 70's and The Band trilogy (all due out this year!) Oh, and elizabethcbunce's book, whatever it may be called. And the incomparable davidlubar's follow up to Hidden Talents, called True Talents. And carriejones for Tips on Having a Gay (ex) Boyfriend, and laurabowers's Beauty Shop for Rent and Greg Fishbone's (tem2's) Penguins of Doom and jbknowles Lessons from a Dead Girl and giogas's In the Backyard and lisamullarkey's Splashing by the Shore and amarrone's book, Uninvited (although I believe the title's not set in stone yet). And many others, some of which are listed by the wonderful cynthialord here.
I'm looking forward to judging the CYBILS poetry category. The final five books have been selected. They are:
Butterfly Eyes and Other Secrets of the Meadow by Joyce Sidman, illustrated by Beth Krommes
Frankenstein Makes a Sandwich by Adam Rex
Handsprings by Douglas Florian
Jazz by Walter Dean Myers, illustrated by Christopher Myers
Tour America: A Journey Through Poems and Art by Diane Seibert, illustrated by Stephen T. Johnson
I'm looking forward to attending a few conferences, although I'm not 100% certain yet what they'll all be. For sure I'm off to Nashua, but other than that, who knows?
I'm looking forward to my very first ever school visit as an author/poet. More on that as it gets closer (and therefore more real).
I'm looking forward to more writing. I've been working on some poems recently, and I'm really thrilled with them. Looking over my completed work, I'm really pleased with my progress. My confidence level has increased just a tad -- I can tell which ones suck (always good to know), but I can also see (sometimes) which ones are excellent. And of the ones which are "meh," I can see which ones hold promise if they are recast or majorly revised. And that's always a good thing.
I'm looking forward to hearing your triumphs and tribulations. May the triumphs be many and the tribulations few, but either way, I'm glad to share this road with you!
