Reviving my Live Journal Account

Aug 15, 2010 20:21

It's been over two years since I last updated this journal. After several attempts to maintain an expat blog over at Wordpress and Blogger, I've decided to revive this journal.

I've come to realise that it's much harder to protect your blog posts over on Wordpress than it is on Live Journal and I've already had a few colleagues stumble upon my Wordpress blog. While I've always avoided writing about my work or colleagues, I'm a little concerned that they might read my thoughts on Dutch culture and on living in the Netherlands. Given that half of the people in my department are Dutch, I don't really want to risk offending them or alienate myself from them. Sometimes it's good to have a place to share one's most intimate thoughts without fear of recrimination from one's colleagues. ;)

One thing I really missed over at Wordpress and Blogger is the community feeling one gets from blogging at Live Journal. The LJ communities are a fantastic way to meet new people and share your interests with others without the need to promote one's blog. I've noticed that many people enjoy reading blogs but don't take the time to share their views or leave a comment. The LJ communities allow for a lot more interaction and exchange, something I've missed over at Wordpress.

Well, let's see how long this lasts. I'm not even sure if anyone still uses Live Journal but I thought I'd give it another go.

[Edit : I'll be locking up all of the old posts on this blog. I've just re-read some of them and it's amazing how petty and whiny I sounded two years ago! Time for a slightly more mature approach to blogging, methinks...]
