Okay, so I should probably put up a post about what I have been up to lately! Quite a bit, in fact, which is wonderful. It makes the summer fly by . . . which can be good or bad. :)
Anyway, I participated in six New Student Orientations last week and the week before and they were freakin' awesome!!! They were so much more fun this year than last and I think that has to do with the people being way nicer and everything being so much more organized. I had so much fun that I lost my voice! So for the last two days I was talking in a whisper. But it's back now, so no need to worry. :)
Then two days after my last orientation (on Wed), I left for Aspen, Colorado, to go backpacking with my dad and "little" bros. I got there on Friday afternoon, after a very bumpy plane ride that left me in a rather queasy state, to find my dad's wife Gayle, her daughter Carly, and Gayle's friend Jean Anne waiting for me. Wonderful. In case you don't know, I think Gayle's a total bitch and her daughter isn't any better. Both of them were born without personalities . . . well, they do have personality I guess, just bitchy ones. Anyway. So I got to hang out with those three all afternoon. Whoopee. We went to this really expensive restaurant (everything in Aspen is expensive, in case you didn't know), where I got an expensive seafood salad . . . and it was smaller than a McDonald's Happy Meal. I'm sorry, but I'm not under 100lbs and I paid $14 for this meal, so why is it so freakin' tiny?!?! Then I looked around and realized that everyone in the restaurant was probably about twenty pounds UNDERweight. That's when the three ladies I'm eating with all proudly proclaimed that none of them weigh enough to give blood. Okay, last time I checked, that's an UNhealthy thing . . .meaning it's a BAD thing. Absolutely disgusting. And it really didn't get better from there. They continued to have a "rich bitch" conversation about extravagant trips and expensive purses . . . and I zoned. Anyway, on to the good part!!!
My dad and bros and myself all left the following morning, burdened with weight on our backs (my pack was about 35lbs) and an eight mile uphill trek ahead of us. It was pretty hard man! I realized on the way up there that I was completely disadvantaged in almost every way. First, all of the guys are taller than me, stronger than me, and had been in this altitude for longer than me. Second, they'd all done this before. It was pretty hard, man. But, I never asked to stop and continued plowing on without complaining. Once we got there, we set up camp, and it started raining. And that's pretty much how the rest of the trip was. Rained about four or five hours a day. Pretty lame. But, I managed to catch some fish and I learned how to gut them and cook them. We had some yummy fish, bean, and rice burritos . . .in the rain. Mmmm . . . We stayed at Snowmass lake for two nights, then trekked down the path two miles (the hardest part of the eight mile journey) and stayed at the beaver pond for one night and then hiked out the next morning. I had a good time, but I was always wet and cold . .. and I got some mad blisters on my heels.
And now, I'm just chilling at home, doing Circle K stuff, nailing down arrangements for an apartment, going to the gym and trying to train our new puppy. Yes, we got a new dog. She was saved from the desert by my grandparent's friend and we ended up taking her. She's a sweet little thing, but she has some puppy-isms we need to break her of. And . . . yeah. Gonna leave for Greensboro in a couple of weeks and then school starts almost right after that. Yey for busy summers!
