Snapecase Recs

Just popping in to offer some snapecase recs; the fest finished posting today, and I want to give you a few links before reveals. (The mod usually posts reveals almost immediately, without a reading period.)

So here are just a few of the fascinating pieces that I enjoyed. The fest overall has a wonderful range of tones and characters.

ART

1 September 1981 by Anonymous.
Severus Snape, various students
The great summary says it all: "With hindsight, death-eating was easier." Easier than what? Than teaching, of course. The artist captures that "first day of teaching" feeling perfectly. As perverse_idyll accurately notes in her comment, it's a travesty that Severus is teaching at all, but since the almighty JKR says he did, I'm sure he looked just like this.

When the Doorbell Rings Twice by Anonymous.
Severus Snape/Minerva McGonagall
Old-man Severus, old-woman Minerva, moonlight, comfort, and romance. What's not to love?

FIC

Hand-Me-Down Devotion by Anonymous
Severus Snape/Lucius Malfoy, Severus Snape/Evan Rosier, Voldemort, various DEs
The author says this fic is a pinch hit! Amazing what they were able to turn out in a short time. The prose is sharp and precise; the portrait of a teenaged Severus is disturbing and believable. We can feel sorry for him and even understand him at the same time that we find his choices appalling.

Scenes from an Occupation by Anonymous
Severus Snape/Minerva McGonagall, Amycus Carrow
Powerful, disturbing, well-written, thought-provoking. I haven't finished my comment at the fest itself -- I'm still processing

It Does Not Do to Dwell on Dreams by Anonymous
Severus Snape/OFC
This beautifully-written story contains intriguing magic and a compelling, complex (if rather damaged) OFC.
