A French version of the doughnut, the beignet, was very popular in the 17th century, when a small round version acquired the unlikely name of pet de nonne (nun's fart). Beignets are now less popular in France than in the French quarters of New Orleans and parts of Africa and India.
so, a pet de nonne IS a beignet, and it does mean nun's fart, but the word beignet dosent mean nun's fart.
