Very early Sunday morning, something fell off of something else and hit our bedroom floor. It wasn't loud, but for some sleep-related reason it scared the hell out of me, and I woke up in the midst of a terrified mid-pitch scream. This oh-so-pleasant sound startled F, who had slept through the first noise, and he woke up yelling the exact same sound I had just made. Same volume, same pitch, same emotion. His fear-filled response scared me for a second time, because, I apparently reasoned, if he was scared too, then maybe there was actually something terrifying happening. So I screamed again, which made him scream again, but at some point during this second exchange we both realized that the entire thing was ridiculous, and also kind of hilarious. So we stopped, calmed down, and went back to sleep.

Like something out of Abbott & Costello. Or maybe the Coen Brothers.
