Met with Historian #2. All good. He gave me very specific notes and pointed me towards a helpful (and nerdily interesting looking!) book. Considerably less assigned reading than Historian #1. I am now at peace with the historians. Now I just need to read a big stack of history, which is intriguing both in terms of its content (I am a big First World War geek, so I like it) and disciplinary standards (an excellent History-style article would, if transferred wholesale to English, would be condemned for not having an argument).
Thanks to all my wondrous intellectual cheerleaders who've offered to commit all sorts of unspeakables regarding the historians. I should let you know, before anyone undertakes some kind of academic vigilante action, that the historians are right about my thesis. But I do appreciate all the proposed thuggery. Warms my withered little heart.
It's two days until Bloomsday! Plan to celebrate accordingly: have a pint, babble nonsensically, think about insider-outsider kinds of topics, masturbate, buy soap, and/or consume some organ meats.
