Just had an earthquake over here! Only a 2.0 but my stomach is still lurching a little as it lasted for about a minute or so. Not to mention we live on the 13th floor (12th by British standards). I can only imagine what it must feel like for those living on the 21st floor

While it doesn't seem that way from my LJ, I *do* have a life. I just happen to be spending more time at home these days because :
1) My partner is ill. Can't exactly leave him alone or drag him into the city with me.
2) The company I work for doesn't have much work in the summer. Therefore, more free time.
3) I don't like Taiwan all that much and have lost interest in 'meeting new people' (I leave in 3 weeks anyway). The country bores me, few places here catch my attention and quite frankly I will be happy to leave.
4) I have done the 'experiencing a new culture' thing more than once now and it does wear on your nerves after a while. As nasty as this may sound, I am not interested in making friends with the Taiwanese (I have a few already anyway) as I have little in common with most of the women here. Shopping, watching TV, sleeping and collecting cute things are not my idea of fun. The fact I also have a partner here means we socialise together and can make our own fun without dragging friends or colleagues along.
5) I've learnt that asking the local people about things to do is useless because they either don't understand my question or they simply don't know an answer to it. I remember asking what has happening for the Lantern Festival and people said nothing. Thanks to the Internet, I found out about the huge lantern exhibition at the Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial. So I'd rather rely on my own investigation than on the words of the locals.
6) I'm bitter about the visa mistake and am not interested in spending more money in this country than I have to.
Aside from all this, I'd like to say I do actually have a fairly wide range of hobbies and interests and do leave the house but I don't always write about them as I can't be bothered. It's hard to judge people's lives from just reading their blogs, after all.
