Random Rant...

The new Disney movie Chicken Little looks SO bad....

I haven't seen it yet and don't really intend to (unless I'm really bored) but I've seen a few trailers and clips available from Yahoo Movies and I have to say I have no idea what made Disney think this was the way to go. Sure, Pixar and Dreamworks have been doing quite well with their CGI offerings but Disney's own attempt looks kind of crap. The animation looks ugly (especially that pig thing and duck) and it just seems like Disney have given up on trying to create quality timeless classics and gone with the 'popular reference' approach that I attribute to movies such as Shrek and the terrible Shark Tale By this I mean that what might be relevant today is going to look so dated in a few years time.

While I understand the importance of Disney wanting to keep with the times, they have completely dumped the idea of making 2D animation ever again (except for the endless stream of unnecessary straight-to-video sequels they have in production) and this is what really bugs me. I wish they'd see that it isn't the form of animation that matters....it's the quality and content of its stories. Not to mention it's killed off an art form that's been around for decades in favour of CGI, which will look very dated very fast. The time and art work that went into the company's earliest offerings, Snow White and Pinocchio, remains unrivalled. These were beautiful productions with stories that have stood the test of time and even those kids who love CGI movies can still love these movies due to their heartwarming stories and characters.

Of course, I can understand some of it is not entirely indicative of today....Snow White and the other Disney princesses probably wouldn't cut it in today's society and don't make relevant role models to today's young girls but who cares? The movies reflect a different era and personally I rather like the nostalgic feeling I have for an era I never even lived in. It's hard to explain..

Anyway, I should end this rant as it's almost supper time and I doubt anyone feels the same way! I'm a big kid when it comes to Disney movies and I'll just have to mourn the end of its glory for me...
