My tastes in books has changed ever since I found fan fic. Especially slash fan fic between two guys, or vampires, or one ex-marine and that really hot guy on his team.
I've been burned a few times trying to buy books featuring a m/m pairing. I realized it's just like the het romances I loved (and still on occasion read) where there are good ones and really really bad ones. I'm less willing to buy m/m focused books when there is a lot of fanfic out there that is written better and it's free. But when I'm almost sure the book is going to be good, I take that leap and spend some money.
This was worth the 7.99 price tag.
'Truthful Change' by Jane Davitt and Alexa Snow delivered on all the things I love in a good story.
There's plot, sex, intrigue, and realizing things about yourself you didn't even know.
There's a tendency in fanfic and profic containing m/m that one of the guys has to be the 'girl.' This book very happily does not venture into that stereotype. These are two guys and that fact is shown.
The above link contains an excerpt to the book. The fact that the main cover guy looks like John Crichton does not hurt at all. (Yes, I sometimes judge books based on the cover).
I loved Karl and his foray into having the 'easy' life he thought he should want and his growing attraction to Adam. I love that he sees Adam as a hot distraction but it grows to something more and he's helpless to stop it, nor does he want to.
Loved Adam being torn between his job and his personal life and how Karl was more than he'd ever bargained for. Karl finding out about Adam's double life had me in suspense over what he would do once he did find out. I loved how they both took that chance that what they had was worth exploring. The sex was hot, steamy and made me want to light up a ciggy after they were done. Adam's growing want for what Karl gives him had me wishing the book wouldn't end. Plus the kink was very well done.
I cannot wait to read this again in a few months. I'm not the only one who re-reads books am I?
