Lessons and Memories
We are growing up
And saying our goodbyes
Taking with us the lessons and memories,
We’ve made in our lives.
But the best years I had
Were back at my old school
When I was in 4th grade,
Thinking Spice Girls were cool.
All I did was have fun
Because boys still meant “yuck”
And it was soo bad to say
“Crap” and “You suck”.
When recess was too short,
And life too long
We never had the need
To fit in or belong.
We were all friends
There were hardly any fights
But even when there were
After one day it was all right.
But on the last day of 6th grade
I remember it so well
We were listening to Ms. Kemp talk,
As I watched eyes start to swell.
I didn’t know why people were crying
I was excited to leave
I had set so many goals in life
That I was ready to achieve!
Coming to Glenn was awesome
But I was so scared
I got so nervous
That I fell down the stairs.
But 7th grade at Glenn
Wasn’t that bad
I made new friends
And kept the ones I’ve always had.
After the summer was over
And coming back for 8th grade
That’s when groups split up,
And friendships began to fade.
The schoolwork got tougher
And it was hard to fit in
Stereotypes formed
And drama would begin.
Guy’s dumped girls
And got broken hearts.
Some were okay,
Others fell apart.
Some tried new things
Like drugs and like drinking,
They did this all
Without even thinking.
Then summer passed
And onto 9th grade
We were all Glenn Greatness
With a roll to be played.
Life became a party,
For most people here.
We are the highest grade
But we wont be next year.
There are so many memories
In my head that are intact
Like at this year’s scavenger hunt
Cole Elrod ran like he was in track.
Matt Bly for Halloween
Dressed up like a girl,
His legs were so hairy
I wanted to hurl.
It was priceless in 7th grade
To see Mrs. Handley get pied
I laughed so hard
I nearly cried.
And when some people
Put a bike on the school
People just stared
Thinking it was cool.
The sumo wrestling was fun
Seeing Mr. Waters get smushed
And he couldn’t knock Country out
No matter how hard he pushed.
Favorites was beautiful
I loved my big poofy dress,
I liked my hair also
My sister called it a bird’s nest…
Our President Brandon Mangan
Or is it Mangor?
Stuck a banana in his pants
But that’s what Mr. GJH is for.
The monkey Bojangles
Is out of 9th grade fame
We are so special
We came up with a name.
The funnest assignment
I think we got to do,
Was making a kite
That ACTUALLY flew!
That cRaZy teacher Mrs. Cope.
Spells her name Kelli with an “I”
But everyone knows that’s wrong
That Kelly is spelt with a “Y”.
This really funny girl
Named Amanda Pape
Insisted that I put in this poem
The word “Broccoli”.
Zebra cake eating contests
At lunchtime was fun,
Even though it was Kyle Shirey
Who always won.
The good die young
That’s what Justin Tackett proved
Even the people who didn’t know him
Still were moved.
When Keith Davis came to Glenn,
And bent a frying pan like a taco
He proved he was pretty tough
But I know I am more macho.
My last day at Glenn
Won’t be like 6th grade,
Because I know what happens
When your school has to change.
So take with you all the memories
That you make through out each day
And learn this one lesson:
Don’t let life slip away…
