What have I been doing? Working! General clinic... continuity... specialty clinic... ER... But I'm enjoying myself.
It's been nearly a week and I'm starting to get the hang of things. I still feel clueless most of the time, but at least I know where things are located, how to enter most orders, write prescriptions, etc.
I got my first paycheck today! And just in time. Rent is due and so is my car insurance payment. I was getting worried since I've been scrapin' by on the leftover loans from 4th year. I guess it was issued on Friday, but I just found out that the first few paychecks we have to physically pick up from the payroll office, and today was the first chance I had to walk over there. I always seem to be working during the hours they're open! So during my lunch break today I was determined to get my moolah. Real money, not loans. Ah, the simple things in life.
Today I was in the Peds ER again and took care of several kids with syncope/heat stroke/dehydration, hematuria in a kid who zipped his you-know-what up in his zipper last week, an obese teen with a perineal abscess, a 20 year old with bleeding hemorrhoids, some URI stuff, etc. That's all for now folks, I need to attend to laundry and get myself some dinner before bed.
ps: I got the best compliment in clinic today!
For some reason I frequently happen to see the kids of other doctors, even saw the son of the chief opperations officer of the hospital the other day... Anyway. Today I saw the son of one of our program's former residents for his well child check. At the end of the visit, she told me and the attending that she was really impressed with the way I interacted with her son and them as parents and how well I did in general! yay
