Today was PALS day #1, and at first I was very nervous... mostly since I have had the last 3 months to just lounge around and let my brain turn to mush. But the day ended up being really fun. I met the majority of my fellow Peds interns and, thankfully, most seem like great personalities. I feel satisfied with the day, as if it got my mental wheels turning again. We did a lot of case scenarios and practice run throughs of shock, respiratory distress and failure, cardiopulmonary arrest, SVT, etc...with some gentle pimping/questions throughout, which I loved because that is how I really learn well!
At the last "station" of the day the instructor was the spiting image of Dr. Cox from Scrubs and had a similar personality going - it was all I could do to keep from calling him Dr. Cox. I guess I was answering a lot of questions correctly too, prompting him to call me "smart girl" for the rest of the session and make jokes with the other interns that they should sit next to me on Thursday during the test. Hilarious or embarrassing?
Tomorrow I'm going to try to get the interns to go out for dinner, etc, after orientation - should be fun!
