Danika requested that I update my journal the other day. I guess others work the same way I do - life gets hectic and one of the best ways to keep up with friends/family is through journals, etc.
I've been meaning to update it for a while, but I am just now starting to feel like I am catching up with life. Who knows how long it will last, but phew.
Some updates for you:
+ We had a work party a few weeks ago to dig trenches and install a sprinkler system. Trestin and I are fortunate enough to have a large family and group of friends who are willing to come help out in exchange for food. :) It looked like a bunch of moles came and had a blast. We only managed to hit three water lines (only one actually broke) and broke a few electrical lines. Fortunately, the power was off and we turned the water off after the first one. We had a locator come, but unfortunately they don't pick up lines put in by the homeowners. I am very lucky to have a handyman boyfriend with a handyman father who fixed all those up. My brother and his best friend have been doing a significant amount of work for us and managed to get all the sprinklers finished, trenches filled and topsoil down in the entire yard. Grass seed has been placed almost everywhere with a nice layer of Tagro. Looks like we will accomplish our goal of completing the yard before we leave on vacation.
+ My parents head out on their giant road trip this coming weekend. They have always wanted to drive across country (my Dad's side of the family is mostly back east) and we recently found out my Grandma was going to be moving out of her house so if any of the kids wanted their furniture, etc. that was to be given to them, well, they better come and get it! :) So, my parents are driving to New York. Doesn't sound like fun to me, but whatever makes them happy!
+ I get my first vacation from work in a week and a half. Trestin, Jay, Sara and I will be flying to New York a week from this Saturday and spending a nice long week there. I am so excited to see my Grandma and family, plus I can't express how much I am looking forward to a break. That's been one of the hardest things with being out of college - WHAT?! No Spring Break?! No Summer off?! What crap. Oh, not to mention the fact that it has become very hard to see all my friends who I MISS!!!
+ Some of my buddies from school graduated last Saturday - Congratulations! :) Trestin and I went to Ryan's graduation party that evening and I finally got to see a bunch of people who I haven't seen in forever - Most notably DANIKA! Hopefully some of them will be making an appearance at my house on Friday. Two of my best friends from college (Nicholas and Tyler) have still not seen my house, so I am hoping they can make it up here.
+ A few weeks ago, my Mom's side of the family went on our annual trip to Ft. Warden. It was a blast and I will post pictures in the near future, I hope. It went by quickly, but it was so fun to just spend time with the cousins, etc. and have some fun without worrying about laundry, pets, yardwork, etc.
+ My cousin's last chemo treatment is happening right now. Assuming all her final tests come back clean she gets her port out in the beginning of June. I am SOOOOO excited about this. How time flies. I always say that I look up to my family and friends (even family that is younger than me), and I think this is a prime example of why. Every time I see her, she is always smiling and cheerful. Even at Ft. Warden she had just done her treatment and was still trucking along, going on walks with the cousins and never once being negative. She's a good example of how I want to live my life.
+ Mother's Day went really well. We had Trestin's family over for a wonderful brunch and then went to my family's house for dinner. We cleaned my parents' van for them because that was the gift that my Mom wanted and I got to garden with my Mom, which I really enjoyed. Despite it not being a holiday for me (unless you want to get technical like Krystalyn did), it was really special for me too. Hearing the phrase "I think this is the best Mother's Day I have had in a long time" and being able to garden with just my Mom was really special to me. I also got a special gift, which made me cry (in a sentimental way) and meant a lot to me - Thank you :)
+ The little pets are growing fast. Aries seems to have pretty much completed her growth spurt. She seems to be getting better and understanding things I say to her more. She turns one around Memorial Day. And Percy is a handful, but learning - kind of. We have been letting him outside a little so he can start learning, but now he thinks he should go out every time we open the door. Good news is, he seems frightened of any loud vehicles driving by and usually hides in the garden or follows Aurora wherever she goes. She seems to like having a playmate outside with her. And Rion is shedding :) He has little tufts of fur sticking out all over his hips, which I think is hilarious. That's how I know he has started to shed. We brushed him the other day for just a few minutes and there seemed to be enough fur for a small sweater. Any takers?
+ Trestin has put his relationship with Rock Band on hiatus and has found a new love - Grand Theft Auto IV. One day I will get my boyfriend back. :P
+ Work has been great. They're keeping me really busy, but I am learning a lot and enjoy it when I hear "Good job!" or "you're very efficient." It's a good incentive to keep me going because I know I am doing alright after all.
+ Trestin and I are doing well. Our lives have been stressful, but we always are hanging in there through thick and thin. It's nice to come home to one of my best friends and the love of my life. Always lets me know that everything is going to be all right.
For those who stuck with me through the update - you rock! :)
