This year's Event Of The Year (EOTY) by kevinexx fell on 12 September, the day right after polling day for General Election 2015.
I was near to giving the party a miss, because I was honestly quite affected by the GE results. The opposition took a surprising beating, doing almost a 10% point worse than the 2011 results. Hopes for more alternative voices in parliament were dashed and to top it off, 1 seat was relinquished to the ruling party. It was a huge disappointment.
I had been cautiously optimistic, but hadn't expect the dismal showing. It was a moody day for me.
Naturally I was barely in a mood to make merry, especially at big-scale ones where I am awkward and proven to be socially inept. Eye candies are nice but are less of an appeal now compared to before. A meal nicely plated doesn't mean it's tasty. (I sound sour grapes lol)
Anyway as daunting as the party was, I showed up because I love kevinexx enough to go. He's among the nicest people I know and I want to be there for him.
There are friends whom I love and care more about, but unfortunately don't see enough of because we're so preoccupied with living our lives. Hence such parties provide a good chance to see them. Granted the interaction might lack depth (due to time and space constraints), it was nonetheless great to see your favorite friends. I'm planning to ask some of them over my place for drinks and chats.
But perhaps I also shouldn't keep to myself too much. Perhaps I should go around saying my hellos. Perhaps sometimes we need to do things that are good for us and not only those we enjoy.
