Home. Finally.

I moved in last night. Finally, after what seems to me like never-ending months of preparation and anticipation. It has been a long and arduous process, from searching for the ideal home, the aching and long-winded procedures at the authorities, the back-breaking move of my belongings to the new home (in its very raw and unfinished state), to the challenging (and occasional frustrating) renovation ding-dongs.

The place still isn't 100% done, but I'm done with not having my own place. It isn't that I'm unhappy staying at mom's, but the fact is that once you have your own place, it's tough to cope with the loss of freedom and solitary space. And it sure doesn't help that I'm one who needs peace and me time.

But finally the wait is over. 4 weeks without my own home felt like a century, and i cannot say how glad i am to have it back.

The new neighbors seem to be a stark contrast from the former. I'm now flanked by all chinese families and my immediate neighbor includes a very warm and friendly auntie. Yesterday alongside a few other aunties, they came by to snoop around while the renovation guys were working. I didn't think it was too nice to self-invite themselves into my home, but i didn't want to be impolite so i allowed them in. Afterall, had my mom been one of them, i would also hope the homeowner would excuse her inquisitiveness.

Anyway first night wasn't too bad. I slept late from the massive cleaning, but slept well. Interesting that my first night was to be at a quiet corner of the guest room. I felt assured in the room, illuminated by the corridor lights coming in through the frosted window glass. I slept through uninterrupted. I hope it's a good sign.
