Assorted thoughts

This past weekend was a blend of  really good and total suck.  The really good parts were I got some new garb cut out for Gulf Wars, thanks to Winalee. I also got some new fabric, thanks to Varinka.  Jimmy will have a couple of new coats and a few new tunics as well.  Okay - that is the plan.  First I must liberate my sewing room from the chaos monster who now owns the den.

Another good part is I got a new printer - the wireless version was only a few dollars more so I went with a multifunction scanner/copier/printer from Cannon.  I have this theory that since my camera is a Cannon - printing pictures will go much easier.  I am such a geek that I was totally thrilled to discover this printer has a paper cartridge.  While replacing my HP printer which I bought back in 1998 or 1999 is a good thing - the situation itself was total suck.

Friday night, Seth pointed out an easier way to fix my lorica that did not involve using the bright new blue straps that I made.  That was good - the fact that I dyed my butcher block blue for nothing is total suck.

Sunday, we dropped the dogs off at Mom's to see how they would handle being there without us present.  As it turned out, they did fine which is what I thought would be the case.  They love going to Mom's house.  So it looks like we will be able to leave them there for Gulf  Wars.  Mom wants to do another visit just to be sure though.  I think we can accomodate her.

However there was a moment where things did not go well.   Mom lives in the country and her next door neighbor has a horse.  Now the horse understands that it is bigger than a dog and is generally patient when Mom's dogs go over and bark at it.  My 6 yr old nephew Dean decided that Janey and Angel were in danger and kept trying to get them to come back to Mom's yard.  They just ignored him.  Now I am not sure how the next part of this story transpired but Mom said she was quite surprised when the Police arrived at the house. They told her they were responding to a 911 call at her address.  It seems Dean called them to help get the dogs home.  Mom said the police thought it was pretty funny and helped put all the dogs in the house before leaving.

I guess we are back to Saturday which was a 10 hour day of increasing suck.  I missed Karl's wedding to do some research for a paper I have to write.  The fun and games started at 2:30.   First I messed around with some citation software as I really don't want to have to retype 30 to 40 source citations.  Then I spent a couple of hours figuring out how to use the virtual libraries for TSU and RODP.  Eventually I compiled 34 articles and was ready to print.  Thus began the slow descent into hell.  The print came out splotchy and faint.  It looked like I need a new black ink cartridge which was odd as I had just replaced both ink cartridges less than a month ago.

Many of you will not be surprised to know that I will piddle with something for hours if I think I can fix it.  I checked the ink levels, I cleaned printheads, I reloaded drivers, I reloaded software,  I deleted and reinstalled software and drivers.  I printed test pages.  Nothing was working (except the damn test pages, they were fine.  And if you know what the issue was - I don't want to know.)  I finally decided it was time to replace the printer.  This involved online comparison which took an hour or so as  I wanted the most bang for the littlest buck.  I headed out to Best Buy just before 8:00.  The new printer was up and running just after mid-night (I took a break for dinner).

So that was my weekend.
