Wow! This is my first post in a while and there is so much to talk about!! Almost all of it is good though!
First thing's first. I have been keeping my life really private for the last few months. Part of my whole "healing" process and letting myself do things in my own time rather than feeling like I need to be an open book. I think. Anyway...We have been looking at houses for several months now. We started in January and have found some things that we kind of liked but were out of our price range and so on and so forth. We had almost given up after a loan on a house that we wanted fell through. I also had the prospect of moving to Virginia, which is still part of my eventual plan I think...and I will explain that here in a sec too. Okay, sorry I keep side tracking.
Well, we happened to find a FSBO and it was assuming the mortgage (hehehe, interesting note* did you ever notice that the prefix of mortgage is "mort-" which is death?? Lol) payments and only buying the house for the payoff amount and paying the arrears as a downpayment. So, we looked at it. To my surprise...it is ours now!!! We bought it!!!!!!!! We are going to get sign the paperwork and pick up keys today at the attorney's office. I am so excited. It is a fixed rate mortgage, so it won't go up. It is the same amount as I am paying in rent right now. Also, the only bill that there is to pay is the electric bill. The gas is fuel oil (which we won't have to buy until winter, and the receipts from last year show that the house was heated on only one tank) so it is paid for by the tank which is about $700. Considering I was paying 300 a month for gas last year, that is a plus. The water is well water, so no water bill. No sewer bill because it has a septic tank. It also has burning barrels for trash so that there is no trash bill. So, we are actually saving money. How cool is that?? We had it inspected and it passed. The only problem that it had was that the chimney needed to be cleaned before the furnace could be used. These are all the selling points:
- it is on Old McArthur Rd.
-the water tank is two months old
-new wiring
-brand new plumbing
- brand new toilet, vanity, sink, and shower
-new roof that has been sealed
-new vinyl siding
-full basement that has been waterproofed and sealed
-oversized garage w/electric garage door opener and cement floor
- 1 acre of land
-comes with a riding mower!
So, that is the good news. The bad news is that the previous owner torn into several rooms to remodel and didn't finish so, the inside looks like a huge mess. The good news is, we won't have to do much demo. Lol. Also, we got some estimates on what it would cost to make things look decent (because it is nothing structural) and we can do everything for under $1,000. Israel actually used to work in roofing, ceilings, and hanging drywall, so he knows how to fix that stuff. His uncle (who lives 30 min. away) was the master carpenter/electrician for a contracting company and he is going to help us even up the floors and do the baseboards and all of that stuff for free. Yay!! It is really small. I actually went back and took another look at it today, and it wasn't really even as bad as I thought the first time I saw it. So, I am really excited. It is going to take a lot of work but it will be well worth it.
As a side note, I went to the doctor and I thought that I had until the end of June to have the baby. Well, apparently, I am farther along than we thought after he reviewed the ultrasounds (taken by another doctor...who I hated...so I switched) and he said that he thinks that I am full term now and that I could go any time! That was a shock. So, we have new house, baby, and all of that stuff coming together at the exact same time. So, needless to say, things are a little stressful...but exciting. The stimulus checks couldn't be coming at a better time. Lol.
So, that has been the life of me for the last couple weeks. That is the reason I haven't been able to keep up with livejournals. I did, however, read all of the one that I missed. Even if I didn't comment on them, I did catch up. S, I am a terrible friend. I am still working on that "Hylas and Nymphs" to post. By the time you read this it may be up.
