people/acquaintances/friends

some people are odd. i have a "friend" who i think is quite odd. i'm not sure whether to call her a friend or not. i haven't seen or talked to her in ages. we don't really have anything in common and we have differing value systems.

she's one of those people who your not quite sure whether to believe anything that she says. you know the type, they've always done everything but they don't really have much to show for all their wealth of experiences. and for all their wealth of experience and knowledge, they don't seem very emotionally or socially evolved. and the stories they tell just don't seem to have a truthful feel to them.

have you ever watched Judge Judy? when she listens to the people telling their stories of what happened to bring them to court she often says things like "I don't believe you!", "why would she/he do that?" the stories just don't sound true. the stories just don't sound reasonable.

i've said for a long time that i don't believe anything that this acquaintance/friend says. the stories just don't sound reasonable. and of course when you meet up with mutual friends and you share the stories they've been telling, they of course have another version of events (which actually do sound reasonable and believable).

why are some people like that? actually we have two people in our lives like this. they are constantly making excuses. invite them to something and they are constantly hedging their bets. they always have an excuse not to make definite plans. and then when you do get together, the stories they tell are just out of this world and so unbelievable.

i guess i just don't understand why people embellish their lives and why they don't take responsibility for themselves. why they are constantly and consistently unreliable and why they lie and why they think we're not smart enough to see through their lies.
