The Happening

To celebrate Friday the 13th (and Andrew's only day off in two weeks), we went to see the Happening.

It seems a lot of people don't like the movies of M. Night Shyamalan (The Sixth Sense, Signs, The Village, Unbreakable, Lady in the Water) and I can understand that. I like them though, a lot. All of them. So I was really excited to see this movie. Unfortunately, I have to say that this was definitely my least favorite movie by Shyamalan.

I didn't check any reviews at all before heading out for the movie (we almost always check rotten tomatoes before deciding on a movie). I didn't wanna know what other people thought of it, and didn't want to know too much about the movie itself. I like Mark Wahlberg, Zooey Deschanel and John Leguizamo, and as I mentioned, I'm a fan of M. Night. I'm not saying I didn't enjoy the movie, exactly. There was definitely at least a little bit of the tension that makes MNS's films appealing to me. The acting was, well, it was a little weird. Since the actors are quite talented, I assume it was the way they were intended to act... It just seemed a little strange. There wasn't really a "twist" (I know a lot of people hated the ending of the Village, but I really love that whole movie for some reason).

To be honest, I'm sure I'll watch the movie again at some point, and I definitely don't regret going to see it. But would I recommend it? Probably not, especially not to someone who isn't already a big fan of M. Night Shymalan.
