I've just finished reading The Battle of the Sexes in Science Fiction by Justine Larbalestier and I enjoyed it. I liked how she tracked the participation of women in SF fandom from its early days and added a lot of context to the stories she discussed (mostly battle-of-the-sexes stories and Tiptree's stories, but she also discusses feminist utopias and how many of them grew out of a negative reaction to the battle-of-the-sexes stories). Sometimes the writing could be a bit awkward, but considering that it was her graduate thesis, I can understand why the writing can be a bit stilted at times. I highly recommend it for anyone in sf/f fandom and anyone interested in a woman's place in fandom and science fiction at large.
