Nurse Mommy.

So i purchased an otoscope from Amazon the other day. i was tired of wondering if the babies had ear infections, trying to decide if i should take them, then taking them to the pediatrician who charges $200 to say "no". i've been fiddling around with it, looking at pictures, etc. but of course the HARDEST part is getting any of my children to sit still long enough. Tonight, after trying several times to look into Kadin's ears, i finally saw one normal eardrum. Exciting! Now i just have to check out the other ear (after i figure out which ear i saw a minute ago!) and get him to sleep; he's been a crying mess for 7 hours but won't sleep.

Yesterday was a trip to the ER with Emily. She had been acting really terribly off all day, fell asleep after a 3 and a half hour nap, not eating a thing, rattling in her lungs.... i finally insisted we take her. They ran tests, gave her meds, did x-rays, and in the end, she just has a virus. i thought for sure she had pneumonia and we'd be admitting her to the hospital. Definitely glad to avoid that but i still get so frustrated when these doctors see it's "just a virus" and then send our sick children home, us parents still completely helpless. She wasn't even getting enough oxygen (the reason she couldn't stay awake), yet home we went.

She was gobs better today; chipper and more playful, though the only food she had was 2 bites of yogurt all day. i am an absolute expert at giving these kids breathing treatments (a medication called albuterol through a nebulizer and/or puffer), administering Tylenol and sucking the goddamn snot out of their noses.

i wish they would get better...
