So here's the mini-review I posted to the Yahoo!Group Sirius_Black_and_Remus_Lupin:
I'll probably end up being one one of very few people who doesn't
like this movie. I thought it felt too long, focused on some things
for longer while sacrificing time meant for other scenes, and felt choppy
and confusing in certain places (I haven't read the book in awhile
and, at three different times, thought the movie had finally ended).
All that aside, I got an extremely good Remus/Sirius vibe from
the movie, which makes me wonder if the relationship between them
that Cuaron seems to be (albeit, vaguely) hinting at will last
throughout the movies, regardless of whether JKR actually writes it
into canon.
True, Lupin wasn't as I'd imagined him, nor was Sirius (Younger,
please, and...er...hotter!), but I think the actors did a great job,
considering that their action sequences didn't include *them*. Man,
what a waste of CGI. I would gladly trade the CGI for more time with
the actual actors.
Anyway, I felt that a lot of the moviegoers in the theatre picked up
on the (slight) slash. When they embraced in the Shack, there was a
lot of tittering (from the girls, of course), and my non-slasher
friends kept nudging me and waggling their brows at the screen (lol).
Maybe it was the fact that it was two in the morning, but I thought
that, if I hadn't read the book, I would be very confused by the
*entire* *movie*, especially the friendship between Siris, Remus,
James, and Peter. I don't think it was explained particularly well,
which is why, I'm sure, there was so much tittering during the
embrace. It simply looked as if Remus and Sirius were a particularly
unkempt Bonnie and Clyde, except hell bent on killing Harry.

On a more positive note, I really enjoyed the score for this movie. It was different this time, at least. I love how Lupin's music of choice was swing and jazz. Fantastic!
But, back to the bad. I hate how it's the popular thing in the reviews to bash Chris Columbus' direction (See NPR.org's review). The man did a great job; much better than Cuaron, in my opinion. Then again, I wasn't too impressed with Y Tu Mama Tambien, so maybe my expectations were already lowered. Eh.
Well...that's all I can think about for now. Don't be surprised if I bitch about this movie for days on end, lol. :)
