I'm back

Now that the election's over, I've come out of hiding.  It was getting too intense for me.  So, anyone have any well-written Harry Potter(Malfoys, Blacks, Marauders, Weasleys, Founders, etc.), Hunger Games, Jane Austen, Ender,  Horatio Hornblower, Dollhouse,  or Firefly fan fiction to recommend? I could use a healthy dose of escapism.

I think she means Death Comes to Pemberley by PD James, which is a published novel by an established mystery writer. I didn't enjoy it all that much-- it got basic facts from the books completely wrong, and the solution to the murder came out of nowhere. In my opinion it failed pretty completely as both a fanfic and a mystery. Sad, really, because I've read other books by her and they've been enjoyable.

This isn't fanfic, but a modern retelling of P&P is currently being told via video blog over on YouTube-- the Lizzie Bennet Diaries. The story just passed the first proposal and letter. I've found it highly enjoyable-- great casting, creative choices in updating the novel, and lots of humor. I was a bit skeptical at first because they misspelled Lizzy's name, but it quickly won me over (and the misspelling was deliberate, partially to differentiate the modern Lizzie from the original, partly to help them have a higher search engine ranking, I'm sure). You should check it out! New videos are uploaded every Monday and Thursday. Lydia and Maria Lu(cas) blog sometimes, too, on Tuesdays and Fridays. :)

OH my gosh! I've just spent the last 3 days sneaking in the first 62 episodes! I'm hooked. Thank you. I don't usually like modern retellings, but this one worked.

Isn't it AWESOME? Jane is PERFECT, Lydia is hilarious, Bing is adorable, and Darcy is just what I imagined. They all have Twitter accounts, too, which can sometimes extend the story. Glad you liked it. :)
