Finally, Jared got up to the front of the line. "Hi, I'd like a room for the night."
"You and everyone else between here and El Paso," the woman behind the counter muttered, clicking furiously on her mouse. "And it looks like your lucky day, because this-" she clicked once more- "is the very last room we have. One hundred and fifty-six dollars with tax."
Jared winced even as he sighed with relief. "Thank God. This is the third hotel I've tried, and I'm sure I'd slide off the roads if I tried to drive anywhere else right now."
"Yeah, sounds like it's pretty bad out there. Terrible weather for Valentine's Day." The woman clicked a few more times and then held her hand out. "ID and credit card, please." She leaned sideways and called to the half a dozen people in line behind Jared, "Sorry, folks. No more vacancy."
Jared fumbled for his wallet as the groans and cries started up behind him. "Here you go."
She started entering his information, and he looked around. It was a pretty standard mid-range hotel, kind of expensive for being right next to the freeway, but maybe that was just supply and demand kicking in.
"What do you mean, there's no room?"
Jared glanced to his right. A second desk clerk was helping a man slightly shorter than Jared, with spiky, sandy brown hair and wire-framed glasses. The clerk was shaking his head and typing frantically on his keyboard. "I don't know, it was there a second ago."
"I booked it on my phone right after I slid through a stop sign and decided to call it a night." The man brandished his phone over the counter. "Confirmation number is right here."
"I understand that, sir, but when you're using a consolidator's web site, sometimes it takes a moment for the reservation to be processed. If you book directly through our app-"
"Do you have a room or not?"
The guy sounded more defeated than angry, and Jared's heart went out to him. If the woman helping him had been a little slower, he'd be in the same boat himself right now.
Still entering Jared's information, she said to the other clerk, "Were you looking at 313?"
"Yeah, that was the one." The clerk sighed. "Is that the one you gave him?"
"Afraid so." She handed Jared's cards back to him, along with a room keycard. "Room 313. Elevator is down the hall to your left, breakfast is from six to ten in the lobby."
He took the cards and hesitated. "Is it a king or two queens?"
"I don't know." She shook her head. "I'm pretty sure it's two queens. It's certainly the only room we've got."
"No, I understand. Thank you."
She gave him a small smile and moved around the desk to start addressing the people still waiting in the lobby in case a room magically appeared.
Jared looked at the man still standing next to him. He had put away his credit card and was staring at the screen of his phone, shoulders slumped.
Clearing his throat, Jared put a hand on his arm. "Excuse me?"
The man looked up, and Jared's heart nearly stopped. He was freaking gorgeous. A little wary, not to mention grouchy, but gorgeous. "What?"
"I um, I overhead, and I'm really sorry about taking your room. I was out on the road too, and I wouldn't want anyone to have to go back out in that. We could share the room if you want?"
The man's brow furled. "Share?"
"Yeah. I mean, she said it had two beds, and what are the odds that I'm standing next to a serial killer, anyway?"
He looked puzzled for a moment, and then a disbelieving smile curled the corners of his lush mouth. "You'd do that?"
"Yeah, sure. Why not?"
He shook his head in disbelief, but he picked up his duffel bag. "You are a lifesaver, man. I was so not looking forward to sleeping in the backseat."
An image flashed through Jared's mind of this man in the backseat of a car doing something that was definitely not sleeping. He gave a quick smile and said, "Well, come on."

His name was Jensen, and he was driving from Dallas to Midland. Jared was on his way home to San Antonio from Lubbock, which was how their paths crossed in Sweetwater, Texas. Jensen was a physical therapist, going to participate a training event. "Don't know that anyone will make it there with this ice, though," he said.
"Yeah, at least I'm just headed home," Jared replied. "Doesn't matter if it takes a little longer to get there."
"No one waitin' for you there?"
"Nope, just me." He gave Jensen a polite smile as he used the keycard to open the door. "After you."
Jensen went inside and immediately stopped so short that Jared almost crashed into him. "Um. Jared?"
He soon realized why Jensen had come to a stop. "Oh. Guess she was wrong about there being two beds."
"Yeah." Jensen's hand came up to rub at the back of his neck. "I don't know about this."
Jared stared at his back. "You don't want to share the room?"
"I-no, it's just that…" He turned as if to leave, head down. "I don't want to make you uncomfortable. It was really nice of you to offer, but I can figure something else out."
"Oh." Jared took a sideways step. "You don't have to-I mean, I don't mind. I know we're both pretty big guys, but there's plenty of room."
"It's not that, it's…" Jensen trailed off, moving towards the hallway. Pausing in the doorway, quietly enough that Jared almost didn't hear him, he said, "You probably don't want someone like me sharing with you. I'll just…find somewhere else."
Jared blinked. "What's that supposed to mean?"
"It means that…fuck it, it means that I'm not straight."
"Oh. Okay. So what?"
Jensen turned around, disbelief all over his face. "So what?"
Suddenly, Jared realized what Jensen had been doing: getting himself out of a situation in which he'd been blocked inside a hotel room by a man larger than him, before admitting he was gay. Or bi, or whatever.
Jared's heart broke for him, just a little bit.
He put on the warmest, friendliest smile he could. "Dude, I'm completely gay."
"You-" Jensen stared at him. "Like, really?"
"Totally."
"Huh."
Jensen still hadn't moved, and so Jared stepped farther back, wheeling his suitcase off to the side. "It's your choice, man. But I promise, no funny business." He winked. "Unless you want to."
That got the corners of Jensen's mouth to curl up . With an exaggerated leer, he looked Jared over from head to toe. The cocky smirk he was wearing sent a shiver of heat down Jared's spine.
He kept his smile warm and friendly, though, and soon Jensen was entering the room again, his smile turning softer as he passed.
Damn it, now Jared really wanted there to be some funny business.
They ordered in pizza after Jensen convinced Jared that the pizza place shared the same parking lot as the hotel, so the driver wouldn't have to go out in the ice. Then Jensen insisted on paying, while Jared tipped the delivery guy as much as the pizza was worth for carrying it across the icy parking lot.
They polished off the pizza in no time, Jensen on the bed and Jared on the sofa, some basketball game on the TV. They'd started out paying attention to the game, but soon they were talking about Dallas and San Antonio, sharing stories about their lives and growing up gay in Texas. Neither of them had had any really bad experiences, but Jensen had learned to be cautious.
"I mean, I work in a job where I put my hands on people all day. I can't worry about what they're going to think if I mention my boyfriend or something. Thank God our receptionist is willing to switch them to another therapist if I ask her to."
"Glad you have someone like that," Jared said. "I work at a small engineering company where the boss doesn't care, and he makes sure that anyone who does keeps their mouth shut."
"Good to have people like that around."
"Yeah." Jared stared at the TV. "So, you said boyfriend?"
When Jensen didn't answer, he looked over. Jensen was watching him with a faint smirk. "Ex, nowadays."
"Oh. Sorry to hear that."
"Mm-hmm." Jensen drank down the last of his can of Coke. Jared couldn't help but stare at the line of his throat as he swallowed.
When he set the can down on the nightstand, he gave Jared a knowing look.
Jared abruptly stood up. "I think I'm going to go shower."
FILL: Only One Bed, J2, NC-17, 3/5zubeneschamaliFebruary 14 2020, 03:54:31 UTC
So maybe he had to pay a lot for the room, but at least the water pressure was fabulous. He soaped up and rinsed off in no time flat, but then he stood there for a few minutes just enjoying the hot water beating on his shoulders. The last half-hour of driving, he'd been white-knuckling it all the way, which meant his shoulders were all knotted up now.
After a few minutes, Jared was starting to loosen up, and he figured it was probably time to get out. He shut off the water and reached for a towel-
-and the lights went out.
Jared yelped in surprise. It was pitch dark in the bathroom, only the tiny green light of the smoke detector glowing overhead. His fingers were brushing the towel, and he snatched it from the shelf and quickly dried himself.
He'd brought his clothes into the bathroom, but he couldn't see where they were, and a few minutes of fumbling around only got him a bruised elbow. So he wrapped the towel around his waist and cracked the door open. "Jensen?"
"Yeah," came the glum reply.
"What's going on?"
"I called the front desk. The ice storm took out the power. No electricity, no heat, no hot water."
"Damn."
"Yeah."
"If you want to shower real fast, there's probably still enough hot water in the hotel tank."
"Nah, with my luck today, it would go out as soon as I got all soaped up. I'll wait till the morning."
Jared paused, trying to set aside the image of a soaped-up naked Jensen. "Um, okay. Then I'll just get dressed."
There was a pause. Then Jensen said slowly, "You were waiting to see if I was going to get in the shower before you got dressed?"
"I-What? No. That's not what I meant-I-" He broke off as he heard Jensen chuckle. With a huff, he said, "I'll be right back."
His eyes had adjusted enough to the dim light that he could at least see where his clothes were. He yanked on his boxers and sleep shorts before going back out into the room.
The curtains were wide open, and the streetlights in the parking lot were on but dim, probably running off of backup power. Jensen's face was lit by the glow of his phone, giving him an almost unearthly beauty. He'd set aside his glasses and was rubbing his eyes as he looked at the screen. "Looks like half the county is out of power," he said.
"Hope it's back on by morning," Jared replied as he fished through his bag for a t-shirt.
When he stood up, Jensen was staring at him. It took a moment for Jared to realize that there wasn't anything wrong with him-quite the opposite, given the way Jensen was absently licking his lips. He kept the smirk off his face and pulled the t-shirt over his head, deliberately stretching and flexing more than he needed to get the shirt on.
When he got the shirt over his head, Jensen had stood up and was moving past him, muttering something about brushing his teeth.
Jared grinned to himself and grabbed the remote from the side table along the way. He had climbed under the covers and pointed the remote at the TV before he remembered. "Aw, man."
Jensen came back out of the bathroom in an old-fashioned pair of light blue pajamas that looked like something Jared's grandpa would wear. The fact that they somehow only made Jensen look hotter either meant that a) Jensen was just that hot or b) Jared was really horny. Although he supposed both could be true at once.
"Mind if I close these?" Jensen asked, hands on the curtains. "Don't want heat escaping through the windows."
"Sure thing." Jared put the remote on the nightstand and tucked himself under the covers. "Not much else to do but go to bed anyway."
"It's only ten but it feels later. Wait, I still need to find my charger-shit."
Jared couldn't help but grin. "Yeah, I had the same thought. I have one in my car you can use in the morning if the power hasn't come back on."
"Thanks." There was a rustling sound to Jared's right, and the bed dipped slightly. "And thanks again for letting me stay here."
"Yeah, of course." Jared stuck his elbows out from his sides. "See, plenty of room."
Jensen gave a low chuckle that sent a warm shiver down Jared's spine. "All right. Good night, Jared."

Jared fell asleep almost right away, exhausted from the long day and the tense driving at the end. He woke up once or twice, disoriented by the sound of someone else in the room. Each time, he reminded himself it was the stranger he'd let share his room, and each time, he snuggled down under the blankets and went back to sleep.
Until there was the time he woke up feeling too warm. And he realized he had rolled right up against Jensen's back and had thrown an arm over him. Worse yet, his groin was snuggled right up against Jensen's ass, and to his horror, he was half-hard.
Holding his breath, Jared carefully started to shuffle backwards. He had just gotten some air between his body and Jensen's when Jensen gave a little grunt, and Jared froze.
There was another grunt that sounded like a sleepy protest, and then Jensen was scooching backwards until he was pressed against Jared again.
Jared closed his eyes. This was going to be the death of him.
He tried again to inch his way back to his half of the mattress, but this time Jensen shifted in his sleep so he was trapping Jared's arm to his chest. He pushed back, ass rubbing right against Jared's more-than-semi, and that was all Jared could take.
"Jensen!" he hissed into his ear.
He got another sleepy grunt in reply.
"Jensen, let go of me."
"Wha-?" Jensen half rolled over, blinking up at Jared. There was a sliver of light coming in between the curtains, highlighting Jensen's profile and making Jared's breath catch in his throat.
They stared at each other for a long moment, legs tangled together and Jared's arm still held against Jensen's chest. Finally, Jensen's tongue shot out to moisten his lips, and Jared nearly whimpered. "Sorry," Jensen said in a sleep-husky voice. "'S cold in here."
"Yeah, I know." Jared tried to angle his groin back so he wasn't poking Jensen in the hip. "D'you suppose there's a spare blanket in the closet?"
"That would mean getting out of bed." Jensen looked at him a moment longer and then turned onto his side, facing away from Jared, still holding his arm. "'Sides, you're warm."
Jared went completely still. "Are-are you asking me to snuggle with you?"
There was silence. Then Jensen asked, "Is that okay?"
Hell yes! Jared wanted to shout. All he said was, "Yeah, sure. Body heat and all that."
"Good."
Carefully, Jared laid back down, shifting around until his left arm was comfortably tucked under the pillow. He could use his long legs to his advantage, tucking them behind Jensen's but still leaving some daylight between his still-half-excited dick and Jensen's ass. No problem, he thought. Just two adults trying to keep warm.
They laid there quietly for a while. Jared wasn't feeling sleepy, not with his nose inches away from the back of Jensen's neck, breathing in a warm, spicy scent with every inhale. Willing his erection to go away didn't seem to be effective, and he sighed. How long was this night going to go on?
"This isn't working," Jensen muttered, shifting his position.
"Sorry," Jared whispered back. "What should we-"
He was cut off as Jensen rolled around in his arms and went up on one elbow, leaning over him. He was pressed full-length against Jared's side, and Jared suddenly realized he wasn't the only person in this bed with a hard-on.
His heart started beating a little faster.
He couldn't read Jensen's expression in the dark room, but the wariness in Jensen's low tone was clear. "Jared, tell me if I'm reading this wrong?"
Jared's only reply was to reach up until his hand was curled around the back of Jensen's neck so he could bring his mouth down to his.
Jensen let out a surprised grunt as their mouths collided, but then he leaned back just enough to rub his lips over Jared's, slick and sweet and teasing. Jared groaned and palmed the back of Jensen's head, keeping him in place so they could just kiss already, damn it.
FILL: Only One Bed, J2, NC-17, 5/5zubeneschamaliFebruary 14 2020, 03:55:39 UTC
In the dark, the wet sounds of their lips and the firm press of Jensen's mouth was even more erotic than Jared had imagined. He teased at the edge of Jensen's lips with his tongue, then pressed further inside, tasting the spice of the pizza, the minty clean of toothpaste, and a delicious flavor underneath that was uniquely Jensen.
He was suddenly exceedingly conscious of Jensen's body against his, a warm, solid line beneath the covers. He shifted and nudged, and then Jensen was between his spread legs, just the right amount of pressure in just the right spot. Jensen made a pleased murmur and shifted in place with a slow, tentative roll of his hips.
Jared let out a low groan into Jensen's mouth, spreading his legs wider. Jensen returned the favor with a more confident swivel of his hips, cock pressing right up alongside Jared's between their pajama pants.
"Just a minute," Jared gasped. He reached between their bodies and shoved at the waistband of his shorts. Jensen quickly followed suit, and then there was nothing between them at all.
After that, it didn't take long at all. Jensen's breath came faster and faster, his thrusts pressing Jared down into the mattress. Jared's hands roamed under Jensen's pajama shirt and over his ass, keeping just enough presence of mind to make sure the covers didn't slide off of them. Their kisses grew more frantic, thrusting of tongues blurring into panting into each other's mouths as they got closer.
Jared reached the end first, thrusting up against Jensen before throwing his head back on a sharp cry. Jensen fell on his neck, licking and sucking at it until his hips stuttered as he came.
Jared kept stroking the long line of Jensen's back as his breaths slowed down. Finally, he murmured in his ear, "Happy Valentine's Day."
"Huh?" Jensen lifted his head.
"Valentine's Day. It's probably after midnight by now, but still."
"Huh." Jensen nuzzled against his neck and then slid off to his side. "Never had a Valentine's Day like that before."
"Same." Jared thought about getting up to get a washcloth and then decided hell with it. He wiped at his groin before pulling his shorts back up and then pulled Jensen close to his side. "Should keep sharing body heat, you know."
"Absolutely." Jensen snuggled in under his arm. "G'night, Jared."
"Good night."
Thank God for ice storms, was the last thing Jared thought as the pull of sleep took him under once again.

Oooh, I love this so much! Who knew that such a cold and miserable thing as an ice storm could result in such a warm and delicious story? Not to mention the hot sex? Zuben, you've done it again! Brava!! 💖💖💖

This was so fluffy and yet SO heartbreaking for a little bit when Jared realized how Jensen was trying to make sure he was safe ♥ These two, I swear to god! They're gonna remember this Valentine's for a long time to come ;)

You could not believe my surprise when they opened the door to the room and there was only one bed.
I really loved this fill!! It was so lovely how Jared took note of the situation around him and found a way to help who he could, I loved that consideration (& that he was already going for it before he realized Jensen was the most beautiful person on earth). The easy clicking between them was lovely. I kept laughing at how hopeless they were without electricity, constantly trying to plug things in and stuff.
And then of course the classic "whoops I'm spooning him & I have a boner" moment was great because Jensen was so relatable both in his not giving a shit about anything but warmth and in his unsubtle machinations to bone down on Jared Padalecki.

What an adorably hot meet cute! Ice storms will never be the same to them again, and I love the little nods from Jensen on sizing Jared up all along the way.

"Good night."

Thank you for writing this. ^__^
