Just a few notes concerning reactions from this post about the events of the Asylum Con. ( And it's more a commentary on my feelings about Cool!fandom versus Batshit!fandom than any sort of complaint about conventions... )

I have mixed feeling about the post you linked. Your post - awesome. The more I read the comments on the linked post, the more uncomfortable I felt. Even the people who were claiming sanity made me feel icky. I think I will continue to hide in my little corner coming out just to talk to the fan friends I have in RL and the few from LJ that I've made.
Sheesh people. If the Js said they weren't going to do any more cons due to this behaviour, then I would probably cheer. I've never gone to a con because being a [relatively] sane fan is weird for me. I definitely wouldn't want to be associated with the lunies.

I guess - I've never really claimed sanity. Fandom is a whirlwind of crazy for me - mostly shiny happy good crazy, but crazy nonetheless. Really the some of the comments almost made me sad, the fact that others could think poorly of their own fandom in general instead of specific acts. I know the comments all weren't like that, probably not posted with that intention either, but that's the feeling that made me write this.

I hope any future cons are managed better and free of such inexplicable behavior! Cons have started to take on a slight negative connotation in the minds of some fans, and I admit I haven't helped that reputation, but that's unfortunate. They should be awesome occasions, not events that leave most of fandom biting their nails, just waiting for the next round o'crazy.

I haven't even watched the vids from Asylum cause the first bit I saw made me uncomfortable and when I heard that Jensen was booed for not performing Eye, I was disgusted.
I do claim sanity...I also claim weird. I like weird. Weird makes me happy.
