You'd think that in spirit of the holiday I would've at least called my grandfather

Aaah, that was a much needed vacation.  Okay, it wasn’t a vacation, but I feel better today than I have in the past 3 weeks, so it did the trick, n’est-ce pas?

Calgon didn’t completely take me away, but I spent the lovely 3-day weekend doing things I absolutely wanted to do (read my new book, napped lazily in the afternoon sun, wrote in my journal), and a few things I needed to do got fit in there somewhere (2 loads of laundry, washed dishes).  And now it’s back to the old grind, but I feel a little more up than I have in recent memory.  Hey, I even bought the new-to-me Sugarland CD finally, and blasted "Something More" while I danced and metaphorically gave my next door neighbors the finger.  (That’ll learn ‘em.  Complain to the manager on me, will ya’.)

I was supposed to go to the library on Sunday to play on the internets, but I didn’t feel like it.  I was still sore from Saturday.  Let me ‘splain.  I left work pretty late on Friday - don’t worry, I was just killing time until the traffic let up - and got home with a precious 45 minutes to spare before I had to start getting ready for the SCB show.  The show?  Formidable!  As always!  Anyway, I got home in time to crash at 2 am and rise at 7:30 am to get my things together **coughandshavemylegscough** for my dance class as 9 am.  From that moment on, my day was bustling like something that bustles.

9 am - Ballet class

11 am - Stretch class: I'm taking this to improve my flexibility; it was my first class; almost vomited halfway through; good times

12:30 pm - Lunch and Chai at Pit Fire Pizza and Indie Coffee, respectively

1:45 pm - Errands

3 pm - Returned home to find funky memo on door about playing music above a whisper that might annoy my uptight-ass neighbors

3:30 pm - Nap

4:30 pm - Rolled over and realized that I was too tired to make the 5:30 show of X-Men 3, decided to catch the 6:15

5:55 pm - Arrived at theater for X-Men 3, stood in line with all of the other nerds and their kids

8:20 pm - Walk out of theater feeling stunned by my behaviour (I cried) and drained by my moviegoing experience; more on this in another post

8:30 pm - Errands

10 pm - Dress show at Molly Malone’s

Yeah, Saturday’s schedule was full of delightful activities.  I also started reading one of the books I picked up from the library before I took my nap.  It’s a simplistic overview on the history of philosophy and different philosophical theories.  It’s kind of a starter kit, but it does a really good job of defining the man behind each school of thought and how his ideas were both a reflection of the time period and the desire to make some sense of the world around us.  Did you know Epicureanism is not so much about the debauchery, and the orgies and the decadence, but more about spending your day lying around in a hammock reading and enjoying many hours of quiet introspection?  Did you know that von Schelling accused Hegel of copying his ideas and publishing them as his own?  Did you know that it was Nietzche’s sister who first introduced his ideas to the Nazi party, who interpreted his concept of the “Superman” as a template for establishing a new world order?  Well, you probably did, but I didn’t.  I just starting the chapter on the American Transcendentalists.  I’ve flagged a few philosophers to study further, but right now, I’m just absorbing the essentials.

But anyway, back to me, by the time Sunday rolled along, I didn’t feel like doing much of anything.  I did go outside because the thought of staying indoors on such a gorgeous day seemed wrong somehow, but it was only to run to Target and get a few things.  Sunday was more of my relaxing day.  I slept late, read my philosophy book, did a load of laundry, talked to my Mom for 90 minutes about X-Men 3 (okay, we talked about other stuff, but we kept going back to it over and over again), read more of my book, straightened up my junky house a little, and read some more.  After 2 late nights - the SCB show and the Dress gig - I needed to take it easy, and it was then that I realized how much stress I've been carrying around.

Monday, I tried to do stuff, but most of it was met without success.  I went to Harbucks* to write in my journal and marvel at how sucky their chai is compared to the Indie Coffee stand chai.  Apparently, quite a few people had the same idea because it was crowded and somewhat loud.  I still sat down and wrote, but those chairs at the “bar” were really uncomfortable.  Someone needs to tell Harbucks that human beings don’t have knees that recede into the chair when they sit.  Afterwards, I returned home feeling somewhat depressed - I wrote about my job - and called my Mommy.  Yeah, I’m 29 and I call her Mommy, you wanna make something of it!  I read, I cooked, I laundered (sheets only), and I vacuumed.  Monday was my gettin'-back-to-normal day, but it was still better than being at work.

Oh, and I finally watched that The Brothers Grimm DVD that I rented a week ago when I got my hair done.  I actually liked it a lot more than I thought I would.  I heard the less than enthusiastic opinions about it.  My mother wasn’t too impressed, and I remember
wickedgoddess_ saying that she didn’t like it as much as she wanted to.  I thought it was kinda “neat”, but I think my expectations were a little lower than others so I was pleasantly surprised.  For fairy tale fantasy, I think Terry Gilliam did a good job.  And I’m slowly becoming more and more convinced that Monica Bellucci is the epitome of Italian goddessness.  She really is quite a stunner.

I think that’s it for me folks.  I know it wasn’t nearly as fascinating as you thought it would, seeing as how you hang on my every word and all.  ::pauses to note echoing silence::  I hope everyone had a lovely holiday!

If you have it, please give what you can for those struck by the quake in Indonesia.  I hate the idea of only giving to charity when disaster strikes, but if it’s within your capacity to give at this moment, please do.  That ends today’s public service announcement.

* If you know what TV show I stole that from, I owe you a cookie.  :-)
