Hello Ladies and Gents,
Just popping in briefly to share a quick-ish update on my comings and goings. No long diatribes today. I know you're disappointed, but do try to carry on. It's not all bad news. :-)
Here we go!
The Good
- I conquered my fear of driving in NYC alone. Sort of. On Wednesday night, I went to see The Rejection Show at UCB in Chelsea. Despite leaving home a little later than I had hoped, I arrived just in time to not have to stand in line and I got a good seat in the back between Smelly Hipster #2 and Faux Artiste #9. (Although Faux Artiste #9 could've been the one that was smelly. It was a bit hard to tell.) Arden Myrin and the guy with the weird mustache were really funny. I know I have to do more driving in NYC beyond Chelsea on a weeknight, but small steps are good, right? Plus, now, I've been to both UCB theatres. :-) NB: I didn't stick around for Adsit & Gausas because I had a tension/migraine headache coming on. Boo.
- I am now the proud owner of an Allentown Public Library card. Go on! Eat your hearts out!!
- Thanks to the Leverage commercials, I decided to download the Cage the Elephant song "Ain't No Rest For The Wicked". Which led to downloading Prospect Hill's "Superhero," which took me on a trip down memory lane and I ended up using my Christmas iTunes gift card to download Bush's "Machinehead" and "Glycerine". I'm still not sure if I truly loved that band or I just had a fervent crush on Gavin Rossdale. Probably a little of both.
The Bad
- I received a call yesterday from the New Mexico Workforce Solutions office. Apparently, one Mr. Hernandez has been using my social security number to obtain gainful employment in the United States. Um, yeah. So now I have to place a fraud alert on my credit report and call the Social Security Administration on Monday to see if anyone is reporting wages with my social in a state that I've never lived in before to avoid being accused of tax fraud. And the town rejoiced. Yay.
- I still haven't decided if I'm going to the Leverage ConCon in Portland. Yes, I bought my ticket, but I've waffled back and forth about selling it. I just don't know if I can bear throwing that much money away on a convention at this time. I know I said that it was going to be my birthday present to me, but so far, none of the fans on the official messageboard present a personality that encourages me to get to know them better. And I don't want to spend the weekend avoiding people I'm not that fond of. But alas, they've added Commander Riker to the lineup now, so I'm leaning toward wanting to go again. I really need to make a decision on this.
- My stepfather is still acting like a [expletive deleted].
The Awesome
- My new mood theme. Am I really that obsessed with Doctor Who, you ask? Maybe. I still think it's a David Tennant obsession, but we'll see come Series 5. Until then, look at all of the pretty that is the Tenth Doctor. :-D
- I have a job interview scheduled for next Tuesday at 1pm. Please wish me well. I'll probably be told I don't have enough writing experience for a Managing Editor position, but the fact that I have medical editing and publishing on my resume does help since it's a med-focused magazine publisher.
- I am much too excited about tonight's premiere of Spartacus: Blood and Sand. I've never been interested in gladiators or the time period, but I am very interested in the cast. As a matter of fact, when I heard John Hannah was in it, that pretty much guaranteed that I would check it out no matter what. But then they added Lucy Lawless, Craig Parker, Peter Mensah, and the hunky Manu Bennett, not to mention Steven DeKnight as creator and executive producer. So yeah. I'm not a fan of graphic violence, but I am fangirl and easily manipulated.
