Okay, this morning I received this in my email inbox, TWICE. By TWO different people. Presumably, people who I know well enough to have on my contacts list, people who are "friends" on Facebook.
now dont get me wrong, i DO support the troups. my dad is retired navy, my brother is retired navy, my son wants to be air force. i GET it. i get that even as long ago as 20 years ago an enlisted man with 2 kids, a wife and living ON BASE...qualified for food stamps. any increase in the military spending budget goes to the big toys. not even to better armor for the guys in the field.
and lets not even BEGIN to discuss the way "military medicine" mis-treats the vets. time was, vet & wife were seen for free on base. now, you pay out the ass (from your meager retirement pay) for tricare, which doesnt cover a lot of stuff, only covers a few doctors (since doctors dont want the miniscule payments), and is a pain in the ass all-round. (example, ONLY mail-in scrips for drugs, for 3 months supply, delivered by mail, fuck you if your mail gets stolen. and yeah, that HAS happened to both my parents, my cousin's dumbass dog comes and steals packages and tears them up. mama only found out that "oh yeah, the dog tore up something in the yard" because she went down there to take back the work gloves the dog left in HER yard.)
Right. And I also support the people in our military. I was (almost) a Marine (long story). I do believe that all members, current and past, deserve medical benefits.
Here are some actual things that Obama has said about our forces: "You are part of the finest military in the history of the world, and we are proud of you. And so I want you to know that everybody back home is proud of you. Everybody back home is grateful. And everybody understands the sacrifices that you have made and your families have made to keep America safe and to keep America secure in this vital mission..."
"You've been there for us, tour after tour, year after year, at a time when too many American institutions have let us down, when too many institutions have put short-term gain in front of a commitment to duty and a commitment to what's right..."
"You've met your responsibilities, you've done your duty -- not just when it's easy. That's why you've inspired your fellow Americans. That's why you inspire me. That's why you've earned your place next to the very greatest of American generations. And all of you represent the virtues and the values that America so desperately needs right now: sacrifice and selflessness, honor and decency. That's why you're here today. That's what you represent."
The man was misguided, granted. But anti-military?
