Wiccan Wins Fortune-Telling Case"...A Wiccan minister, Cliff Eakin, sued the parish over the ordinance, asserting inspiration from the divine transmitted by a Wiccan minister should be treated legally the same way as a message from God transmitted to a congregation by a Christian minister..."
"...People who defraud others using fortunetelling methods should be prosecuted under laws prohibiting fraud, not under an ordinance that infringes on people’s spiritual beliefs, Eakin maintained..."
I like the sound of this. Because now, the law could just as well be used to prosecute Xian ministers who defraud their congregations. Not that that was not always the case. But now, perhaps it will be more in the front of the minds of the people to do it.
"I need 100 million dollars or else God has told me I am going to die", indeed.
(original article here) Sigh. Again with the denouncing of "Satan". But then that's Wicca.
A term like "Pagan" would never win a case like that. We are too diverse. The Wiccans have got a pretty solid edge, having been officially classified as a "religion" by the military and all.
